Laurie McCain Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 13, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laurie Kathleen McCain, aged 67, on March 31, 2025. Born on October 17, 1957, Laurie was a woman of boundless kindness, compassion, and strength who touched the lives of many during her 67 years on earth. Laurie was a fighter until her very last breath and will be missed fiercely.

Laurie grew up on a farm, riding horses with her sister, Lisa Anderson. After high school, she raised her small family in La Grande and then later in Portland, which she came to call home.

Laurie was a dedicated Registered Nurse for 32 years, evidenced by a life defined by her unwavering commitment to caring for others. Whether tending to her patients or offering a comforting hand to family and friends, she had a special way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and cared for. Her profession was more than just a job, it was a calling, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to it, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and patients alike.

Laurie was the loving mother of Jeffery Bohnenkamp and Jill Vannattan, her cherished granddaughter Littia May Schwarz, who preceded her in death, and her loving grandson, Austen Vannattan. Her sister, Lisa Anderson, her only sibling, was also incredibly important to her. The loss of her beloved granddaughter left a profound mark on her heart, but the love she carried for her will never be forgotten. Laurie's family was her greatest treasure, always the involved mother. She was Jeff's Cub Scout Leader and Den Mother and Jill's Campfire Girl's Leader, as she poured all of her love and devotion into them throughout her life.

A woman of both honor and humility, Laurie lived with an open heart, always ready to help others and provide support when needed. Her laughter was infectious, and her sense of humor brought light into the darkest days. She will be remembered not only for her incredible nurturing spirit but also for her strength in the face of life's challenges, always moving forward with resilience and grace.

Laurie's legacy will live on through her children, grandson, and all those whose lives she touched. She had many friendships that she treasured greatly. While we mourn her loss, we find comfort in knowing that her love and kindness will forever remain in our hearts and that she is now with Littia and her loving parents, Andrew and Ruth Anderson.

Laurie is survived by her son, Jeffery and his wife Lisa, her daughter Jill, and beloved grandson Austen, as well as her extended family and friends, all of whom will continue to carry her memory with love and gratitude. The loss of her cuts incredibly deep.

Rest in peace, Laurie, Mom, Grandma Boo. Your love and light will always shine in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love you, and we loved you so.
