Lawrence DUFOUR Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Feb. 27 to Feb. 28, 2015.
DUFOUR, Lawrence
March 16, 1930 – February 25, 2015
Larry grew up - well, actually he never really grew up, but he lived in Regina before he could shave and for a few years after. He was a spirited and energetic fellow who saw only the fun side of life and who generated something in the neighborhood of a zillion stories, many of them mostly true. Here is one. His father, Walter, owned the gasoline station and garage in Regina that had the contract to service the city firetrucks. He was not yet 15 when Walter left Larry alone in the garage one evening. Rather than sweep up as he was told, he wheeled one of the fire trucks onto Albert Street, turned on the siren and lights and gunned it, speeding the full length of Regina. And back. And there. And back. The police raised a bit of a stink afterwards, but he was not charged and his father did not lose the contract to service fire department vehicles. No harm, no foul.
Larry went on to marry one of the most sought-after lovelies in Regina, Helen. They laughed and loved until Helen died a few years ago. Along the way, they raised four children: Warren (Brigitte), Geoffrey (Dianne), Julianne (Clay) and Carolyn (Rob). They, in turn, produced 11 grandchildren. They will all miss him and, so far as anyone will say, none has driven a fire truck. Yet.
Of Larry's siblings, only Bernice Dunsmoor of Calgary is still living. His brothers Ed, Frank and Joe and his sister Lorena Tuepah are gone.
Larry was larger than life in many respects and people loved to be near him. He made them laugh. He made them feel good.
Larry did volunteer work with several Catholic churches in Saskatoon but most of all he liked working with his pals at the Nutana Lions, helping those with vision difficulties. The Lions never forgot him when his health declined - his spirits soared during the many, many times they visited him. They were great (roar!).
At Larry's request, there will be a funeral mass for immediate family only. For those who would like to remember Larry and celebrate his life, make someone laugh today. That's what Larry would do.

Warren. Geoff, Julie, and Carolyn,
Only recently learned of your father's death, please accept my condolences. The Krutzen Family were fortunate to live on Madden Ave at the same time as your Family..great memories. Your Dad was usually the "fun" leader of all the street events. He will always be remembered with a smile. Sincere sympathy, Pat Krutzen

Thinking of all of Larrys family as you say Goodbye to him. We met him through your Mom Helen and he was the "Love of her Life" and was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend. He was generous with his time with his grands and loved his family. We will remeber him fondly as anyone who knew him will. RIP Larry. How wonderful that he will be with Helen. What a joyful reunion that will be. Thinking of you all and sending our condolences.

I met Larry at Sears in the Appliance Department in 1980. He was a great salesman and I bought many appliances through the years. Our paths crossed again at The Sierras of Erindale when he and Helen moved in across the hall from me. He was a kind, gentle and funny man with lots of stories. Rest in peace old friend and say hello to Helen from me.

Geoff, Warren, Julie, Carolyn and family. We were saddened to see of Larry's passing. You could not wish for better neighbour's then your mom and dad. Madden Ave. still reverberates with a booming voice calling out "howdy neighbour". Keith has taken up the challenge tyo keep this saying alive in Brevoort because it made him feel good every time you heard Larry say it. Our deepest condolences to all.

Our condolences Geoff....I read the obits daily, often on line.
I saw the name Dufour so I read his obit. As I read, I smiled
as it was a delightful insight of a gentleman. The more I read the more I thought of you and where you got much of your affable character. He is back with old friends, bringing them up-to-date and making them laugh....Dennis & Jean

Geoff, Warren, Julianne, Caroyn, Our sincerest Condolences on the passing of Uncle Larry. What a terrific obituary of a full life lived large and shared with so many. We each have a cherished memory of him as an outgoing friend who drew people together and lit up a room with a story and his laugh. I will always have fond childhood memories of family times together decades ago with Helen and Larry. Warmest regards, we are thinking of you and our hearts are as one in Sympathy. Our family is saddened to hear of Larry's passing. My dad, Bill Novak, worked with Larry for countless years at Eatons. And I worked there too for several summers while I was a student. Larry was always a bright light - a great guy who would make you feel good with his laughter and jokes. I always enjoyed my visits to the furniture department to say hi. Recently, Larry was staying at Brightwater where my mother, Mildred, is now residing. I spoke to Larry there, and could still see that vibrant spark. My Mom, sister Cheryl (who knew him well), and I, pass on our condolences to your family.
p.s. I went to school with Alexa, and my sister with Dianne.

Larry was certainly larger than life and a good friend during the years I worked at Eatons and Sears. I still remember the first thing he told me when I was getting into sales that the ditches are full of salesmen who never learnt how to close. There was never a dull moment when you were around Larry and will be missed by everyone who knew you. RIP old buddy.
