Steen, Margaret M. "Peggy"
Sep. 16, 1925 - Apr. 16, 2014
Margaret M. (Peggy) Steen. On April 16, 2014, the Blessed Mother took Peggy Steen to join the Lord. A bedside ceremony was held at her passing. Peggy fought hard, and her body greatly failed her, but in the end she was not in pain and displayed grace.
She was born 9/16/25 in Albany, NY to Margaret Rigaud Moran and Frank Moran. She married Leonard Perkins and had three children, Donna Mulig (Bob), Michael Perkins (Christie) and Linda Penn (Everett), all of whom survive her. She then married Garfield Steen and lived in Waukesha, WI, before moving to The Villages, Florida. Garfield died in 2004. Five years ago she needed more daily living assistance and moved to the Sarasota area. Peggy was predeceased by her parents, sister Eleanor and brother John.
Peggy was greatly aided in her journey by the incredible staff at Clare Bridge Bradenton. The family would also like to thank Deborah Howard Patton, ARPN for her loving guidance and care and the wonderful Hospice staff of Jennifer, Kim and David. Mom could not have been better loved and cared for.
Mom is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer James (Chris), Kristina Pitaniello and Anthony Pitaniello (Trish); great grandchildren Nathan, Joshua, Isabella and Adelaide Pitaniello, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her Angels at The Villages-Emmy Hannold, Judy Janssen and Jay Bailey, whose faithful love continued to make a difference. To all those who assisted in mom's long goodbye...whether you lent an open heart, helping hand or said a prayer; it did not go unnoticed.
In lieu of flowers, please recall a special Peggy story...smile, say a prayer and reach out to someone in need as we all share this journey we call life. If you wish, a contribution in her name may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.
A service and celebration of life will be scheduled in July at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. and mom will be placed with Garfield. Details will be available at http://www.hiers-baxley.com/obituaries/

Grandma Steen will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by the Pitaniello family. She had a way of finding the good in people and complimenting it that produced lasting effects. She was also fun-loving and practical at the same time. Her indomitable strength of character served as a family anchor during tough times. Her 4 great grandchildren will never forget the root beer floats that she served them.

Great-Grandma Steen always had a really nice sense of humor. I have fond memories of seeing her in Florida.

It was a real blessing to be a part of Grandma Steen's life, even though most of the time was from a great distance. She always had a warm smile and something to say that would make us laugh. I loved her thoughtfulness and attention to detail. I look forward to the day when we meet again in heaven.
