Mark William Reed, 54, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at his home in Dubuque. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Welton, Iowa. The Rev. Father Ed Botkin will officiate the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in DeWitt with a luncheon immediately following burial at Buzzy's in Welton. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, at Nelson Funeral Home in DeWitt with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
Mr. Reed was born March 24, 1950, the son of William and Joan (McDermott) Reed. He graduated from Central High School in DeWitt in 1968. He was employed at Gary Williams Insurance Agency as an insurance agent until his retirement in the year 2000. He served in the Army Reserves during the '70s. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Welton.
He is survived by his mother, Joan Reed, of rural DeWitt; and seven sisters and seven brothers, Patrick (Linda) Reed, of Moline, Ill., Kathleen (Peter) Picchi, of Cicero, Ind., Dorothy Fischer, of Dunwoody, Ga., Thomas Reed, of Camanche, Iowa, Joseph Reed, of Charlotte, Iowa, Leo Reed, of DeWitt, Joan (Ron) Wheeler, of Aurora, Ill., Julie Reed, of Elmhurst, Ill., John (Carol) Reed, of DeWitt, Helen (Rex) Robinson, of Richland, Wash., Gregory Reed, of DeWitt, Barbara (David) Bowstead, of Bettendorf, James (Gala) Reed, of DeWitt, and Lisa Barrett, of Oconto Falls, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his father, William, who died in 1989.

I was a 1968 CCHS classmate of Mark's. My sympathy goes out to his family and friends. We enjoyed his sense of humor -- he was the person who could get us giggling in study hall faster than anyone else. May he rest in peace.
