Nelson Strahan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 1, 2024.
Nelson Mark Strahan, aged 69, passed away in Bakersfield, CA, on November 25, 2024. Born on August 20, 1955, Mark was known for his fun-loving spirit and generous heart, qualities that endeared him to many throughout his life.

Marks formative years were spent in Mojave, where he attended Mojave Elementary and Mojave High School, showcasing his athletic talents on the football field. His prowess earned him scholarships to Bakersfield College and Antelope Valley College. Post-education, Mark honorably served with the US Army's 82nd Airborne, where he embraced the challenges and camaraderie that came with being part of such a distinguished unit.

Professionally, Mark dedicated many years as a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers, a role that matched his robust work ethic and precision.

In his personal time, Mark was an avid outdoorsman who relished sports and bird hunting with family and friends. His love for classic rock 'n' roll also played a soundtrack to many cherished family gatherings.

Mark's life was rich with love and laughter, shared with his wife, Lori, and his children, Joshua Strahan (Brittany), Jayson Strahan, and stepdaughter Ramah Brogdon (Matt). He was a proud brother to Wiley Strahan (Charlotte), Wendell Strahan (Teri), and Denise Crenshaw (Greg). His joy was multiplied by his eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Enoch Strahan, in 2001, and his mother, Johnnie Glendora Edwards, earlier in 2024.

A celebration of Marks life will be held on December 12, 2024, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Southern Baptist Church, 1545 S. Fairfax Rd. This will be followed by a military service at Arvin National Cemetery at 12:30 pm. A reception at the church will follow the ceremonies.

Marks legacy of joy, commitment, and love remains a guiding light for all who knew him. His life exemplifies a journey well-traveled and a race well run.

It's been a year without you! Our family is not the same now, we are all missing you so much. Your spirit is flying high now with our mama and that brings me some peace.. You were a fun loving brother and you will forever be in my heart. Until we meet again I love you brother.

He was always very polite and sweet to me. Making sure that I had a favorite drink when I visited and we sampled and shared our favorite sweets too. I wish you Godspeed to be with your Mom. She adores you! I´m sure gonna miss our visits.

I love you brother, thanks for always being there for me and being my protector. I´m sure going to miss our talks, getting your late night text, bringing you goodies especially your fav donuts, then you would always say "OH BOY", and helping with you. I know you and mama are together now, watching over all of us.. Fly high with the angels my dear brother, you have no more pain now.. YOU will be missed

Loved talking to him, he and I had the same warped sense of humor. He always had a quick comeback, followed by a snide remark to make me respond. He and i both really enjoyed those conversations. Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed.
