Nicholas PHONGSAVATH Obituary
With deep sadness the Phongsavath family announces the death of their dear and beloved son and brother, Nicholas Phongsavath, on July 18, 2014. His passing has left a great void and he will be greatly missed by his families and friends. Nicholas was born on August 22, 1992, the eldest child to Oudalone and Phanh Phongsavath of Regina, SK. Nicholas was predeceased by his grandfathers, Senevonghachack (Oudone, January 1998, Regina) and Phongsavath (Thitla, May 1991, Laos); and his grandmother, Phongsavath (Thongsay March 2010, Laos). Nicholas is lovingly remembered and will be sadly missed by his parents, Oudalone and Phanh Phongsavath in Regina; grandmother, Thavone Senevonghachack of Regina; siblings, Austone Phongsavath and Angelina Phongsavath of Regina; the family dog, Wansee; aunts and uncles, Bouphaphanh (Bounport and Oudalay) and Malathong (Oudaly and Phayvanh); and cousins, Bouphaphanh (Christabella) and Malathong (Ashley and Taylor). Nicholas was very loving, kind, thoughtful, polite, respectful and hardworking. He always put others needs before his, and was always there for you no matter what he was doing or where he was. Nicholas loved guitar, slack lining, rock climbing, biking, reading, video games, music, programming, electronics and game development. Nicholas was raised in a loving home in Regina, SK. He studied at the University of Regina in the Faculty of Engineering and was completing his internship at iQmetrix Regina. At the University Nicholas was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and Competitions Director for the Regina Engineering Student Society (2012). In 2010 and 2011 his team received 1st place at the Regina Engineering Competition and 2nd place in Junior Design at Western Engineering Competition (2012). They were also contenders at Western Engineering Competition 2011. Nicholas was an Ordinary Seaman – Marine Engineer System Operator with the Canadian Forces: Naval Reserve (2011-2013). Nicholas volunteered at the Laos Pavilion (2010 and 2011) and had attended Grace Mennonite Church of Regina at an earlier age. The family extends a special thank you to family, friends and the Pemberton community and volunteers for their support. Thinking of you today, Nick. There are a lot of things in my life now that I attribute to things you told me back when you were here on earth; largely being open to trying new activities, becoming adventurous with food, living without judgement (or trying to, anyway), and surrounding yourself with good people to share your happiness and the simple experiences in life. You were wise beyond your years and an incredible soul. I'm glad I got to meet you. Happy 31st Birthday! You're missed by many.

It's been a year and I still think of Nick from time to time, and mourn the loss of such a promising future for him. I can only imagine the unbearable pain of losing your son. He has not been forgotten.

We are so proud and feel so bless that on Dec.19,2014 Nicholas had received his posthumously, the Bachelor degree in Software Engineering. Thank you to the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science for their approved to award our Nicholas. He had worked so hard. Most of all we would like to thank you to Dr. Esam Hussein-Dean of Faculty; Mr. David Crossman-dear friend,roommate,classmate; Mr. Jason Whitelaw-president of the Regina Engineering Students Society; Dr. Craig Gelowitz-the Program Chair of Software Systems Engineering. Thank you for coming over to our home to give us Nick's degree, it was so kind and very thoughtful. We are so very grateful. Thank you from Nick's family, friends, and Nicholas.

Nick was a dear friend of my mine in high school and beyond. He brought such a light to so many people's lives and taught me a lot about being a person. I will miss him dearly and won't ever forget his heart. We spent many years together and can't thank his parents enough for raising such an amazing person.

I was there the day you were born at Regnia General Hospital. My heart breaks knowing that I will be attending your funeral tomorrow. Dear Nick, I didn't know you well, but spending the last few days of your life with you showed me in many ways what a kind-hearted, gentle soul you were. You had a great sense of humour and a caring spirit that I will never forget. From making sure we were all careful with the peanut butter around Marvin to going out of your way to show me where the water station was when I told you I was so thirsty. The bond we all formed in those few short days was a beautiful thing..all the laughs and conversations, the sunshine, and home-like environment we all created will never ever be forgotten, and neither will you buddy. My heart aches and goes out to all your family and friends. When Snoop Dogg played Jammin' on Saturday the rain stopped all of a sudden and the sun's rays poured out through the clouds and over the crowd, I thought of you and cried for you and all your family and friends feeling such deep pain. Nick was a Great guy. I have many fond memories of him from many birthday parties and gatherings with your family over the years. It was with great sadness we found out about his passing.
