Pauline Powers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 3 to Jan. 4, 2024.
Ventura - Pauline Powers, better known as Pauli, passed away December 11, 2023 after a series of debilitating illnesses.

Pauli was born April 24, 1941 in Grants Pass Oregon where her parents, George and Betsey Hibbard, both taught high school. The family soon moved to Portland where Pauli's brother Wally was born. Pauli graduated from Grant High School in Portland in 1959. She went on to attend Willamette University where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, graduating in 1963 with a degree in German. No one, including Pauli, is quite sure what she planned to do with the major but if one understands the German language and you knew Pauli, you knew she liked things organized with few deviations so it was good fit.

It was at Willamette where she met Paul Powers. There were married in August of 1963. That began a marriage that spanned 60 years of good times and great memories. The couple moved to Los Angeles where Paul was enrolled at UCLA Law School. A trip to the University Placement Office landed her a job as a secretary to a lawyer in Beverly Hills who represented movie actors and directors. She worked there for 3 years. It was a far cry from growing up in Oregon and she loved it.

After Paul graduated from law school the couple moved to Ventura where Paul had grown up. They were joined by daughter Jennifer in 1967 and son Matt in 1970. After raising the children she became a travel agent and worked in that capacity until she retired.

During her time in Ventura she was a member of Lawyers' Wives, Juniors, Assistance League and Las Patronas. She served on the Tri-Counties Regional Board and was a longtime member of the ARC Board, both of which dealt with and assisted persons with developmental disabilities. Pauli enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling the world, reading, dabbled in a bit of knitting and was a passionate needlepointer.

She is survived by her husband Paul. Her daughter Jennifer, her husband Greg and their children. Her son Matt. Her brother Wally, his wife Lou and their children and her brother-in-law Bruce, his wife Coleen and their children.

She will be sorely missed but in a good way.
