With profound sadness and enduring love, the family of Peggy Harris announces her peaceful passing on March 20, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on July 2, 1947, in Jackson, Mississippi, Peggy was the beloved daughter of the late McKinley Smith Senior and Lena B. Smith, both parents preceded her in death and the cherished fourth child of eight siblings. Peggy accepted Christ at an early age. She graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana.

Peggy's life was a living testament to kindness, generosity, devotion, and unwavering strength. She was a radiant soul who poured her heart into her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to cross her path. Peggy was always surrounded by her four-legged campions, Baby, Trixie and Cookie.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Patrick (Tenia) Harris, Bryan (Kimberly) Harris, and McKinley Harris, whose lives she nurtured with a deep and abiding love. She was a proud and doting grandmother to JaMesha Harris, Braylyn Harris, Tatina Broaden, Brya Harris, Cassia Harris, Kaiden Harris, Kaiya Harris, Aiyana Harris, Caspian Harris; Great grandchildren Rayanna Richardson and Jayce Sturdivant.

Peggy is preceded in death by her siblings McKinley (Elton) Smith Jr., Janice Walker and nephews Wardell Paul Senior, and Parnell Wilson. Peggy leaves behind her devoted surviving siblings: Maggie Paul, of Gary, Indiana, Patricia Smith of Whitestown, Indiana, Natalie (Malcolm) Holland of Merrillville, Indiana, Carla (William) Julkes of Rancho Belago, CA, Carmen (Jeffery) Cusic of Matteson, Illinois, and Sister-in-Law, Elaine Ennols of Henderson, Nevada, who will miss her fiercely but carry her spirit with them always. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends who were deeply touched by her love, wisdom, and laughter.

A woman of grace, grit and fierce protector of her sons, Peggy was the heart of her family- who compassionately uplifted others without seeking recognition. Her home was a sanctuary, filled with warmth, good food, and wisdom. Whether it was offering a listening ear, a home-cooked meal, or a guiding word, Peggy had a gift for making others feel seen, safe, and loved.

Her memory lives on in the stories shared by those she helped, the traditions she passed down, and the legacy of love she created. To know Peggy was to know compassion, to feel comfort, and to witness the quiet power of a woman dedicated to lifting others.

Though she has left this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to bloom in every garden she tended, every life she touched, and every heart she held close.
