Ray Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 30, 2025.
Ray Glenn Davis ("Glenn"), of Aurora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025.

Glenn was born in Sangamon County, Illinois on December 23, 1926 to Lonnie and Ruby (Neff) Davis. Glenn served his country in the Korean War as a Private First Class. He was honorably chosen to guard the United Nation Delegates in Panmunjom.

Glenn married his best friend, Violet Audrey Davis ("Audrey") on April 3rd 1953 and they went on to grow a beautiful family together in their 70 years together.

Glenn retired from AT&T in December of 1988. He then spent many years working in food services at Oswego High School, where he will be fondly remembered.

Glenn was a Cubs fan and enjoyed sitting outside in the fresh air listening to his beloved Cubs play. He was a kid at heart and delighted in driving everyone crazy with his singing fish and clock that chimed hourly with different bird sounds. He also enjoyed setting up his train set around the Christmas tree for the great grandkids. Glenn loved all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren deeply. He taught many of them how to navigate stairs at a young age, how to sneak a bite of ice cream or candy late at night, and how to instigate their siblings and cousins.

Glenn was devout in his Christian faith and loved to listen to gospel music and spread the word of God. Both he and Audrey were members of the Family Bible Church in Aurora. They were very active in the Church youth camp for many years. Glenn lost his beloved wife, Audrey, in February of 2024 and he missed her with every single breath. One of his favorite songs to listen to after she passed was Alan Jackson's I want to Stroll Over Heaven With You.

Glenn is survived by his children; Chris (John) Mihalka of Gilbert, AZ, Bill (Lisa) Davis of LaPorte, IN, Sandy (Rick) Oliver of Gilbert, AZ, and Rodney (Debbie) Davis, of Hinckley, IL.

He had seven grandchildren; Jennifer (Corey) Lopez, Amy (Jesse) Jazwinski, Michael (Jennifer) Mihalka, Kristopher (Sara) Davis, Mark (Angie) Davis, Sarah Randolph, and Matthew Davis. Glenn was blessed with fourteen great grandkids; Brayden Lopez, Cooper Lopez, Juliana Jazwinski, Lillian Jazwinski, Carter Jazwinski, Addison Davis, Jordan Davis, Avery Davis, Aubrey Amabile, Jack Mihalka, Claire Mihalka, Harper Perdue, Oliver Randolph, and Jaxton Randolph. Glenn and Audrey babysat their neighbor's daughter, Destiny, throughout her youth and loved her as family.

He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Violet Audrey Davis, his parents, his brother Fay Davis, and his sister Evalyn Williams.

A celebration of life will be held at a date still to be determined.

We would like to thank the nurses and aids at Bickford Assisted Living for their kindness and care.

Glenn will always be remembered by those who knew him as a strong, loving, and devoted family man whose memory will live inside us all. We know he and Audrey are walking hand in hand smiling down on us from heaven!

When I pastored in Illinois I had the privelige of knowing Glenn and Audrey; working alongside them in church camps and worshipping alongside them at church events. They were both wondeful, gentle, and kind spirits. They made a positive differnce in this world!

He was my Mother´s Cousin. She talked about him often. They were close in age. They grew up together!
