Richard Matthews Obituary
Age 75 of Painted Post, NY formerly of Horseheads, NY passed away on Thursday December 6, 2012. Richard was born on November 8, 1937 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Frank L. and Vera Whiting Matthews Jr. and was also pre-deceased by his brother Frank L. "Larry" Matthews. He was a graduate of Horseheads High School and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads for many years. Mr. Matthews served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1960. He retired as a New York State Trooper in 1986 from the New York State Police in Painted Post, NY. Dick is survived by his wife Dawn A. Rhoades Matthews whom he married on September 11, 1993; sons: Timothy Matthews of New Orleans, LA; Kirk Matthews of Phoenix, AZ; Patrick Matthews of Tumwater, WA; daughters: Belinda Helminger and Katherine Segui both of Middleburg, FL and Carolyn Cason of Fleming Island, FL; step sons: David Vollgraf of Largo, FL; Jeffrey Vollgraf of Painted Post, NY; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special cousin Joan Mustico. There will be no prior calling hours. Interment will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY. Arrangements entrusted to the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY.

I knew "Dick" from 4th Grade and played sports with him. He was a great team player and friend. "Dick" would do anything for you he could and was fun to be around. He was the guy who won the Blue Raider name contest at HHS. We were better off to know "Dick" as a buddy. Sorry for your loss, I will miss knowing him.
