Thomas Camera Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2024.
August 1, 1940, ~ August 21, 2024 (age 84)

Thomas Joseph Camera, 84, of Venice, FL and formally of Rochester, MI, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, with his loving family by his side.

Tom, the oldest of ten children, was born in Lorain, OH on August 1,1940, to J. Leonard Camera and Margaret Laverne (Diewald) Camera. After graduating from St. Mary's Academy in 1958, Tom obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Dayton. At Dayton, Tom met the love of his life, Sharon.

Tom was never afraid of a challenge. He had a variety of occupations, first working as a teacher in Lorain, and then found his true calling as a salesman. Tom never met a person he didn't like. He was a sales manager at Parker Chemical, which then led him to start his own company, QualiChem. QualiChem grew and was eventually acquired, which allowed Tom to retire early. Not one to retire early, Tom then went into real estate with his wife Sharon as the "Home Team" with Century 21. Tom and Sharon were a successful real estate team until 2005.

Tom was a member of Great Oaks Country Club in Rochester for over 40 years, winning several tournament championships with his wife and sons during that time. Tom especially enjoyed spending time with his family in Lorain, his grandchildren, and of course his many friends.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon (McPherson) Camera of Venice, FL; sons, Scott Thomas (Elissa) of Alpharetta, GA; Brian Eugene (Kristi) of Orlando, FL; Anthony Leonard (Jodi) of Roswell, GA; and Shane Michael (Marcia) of Weston, FL; eleven grandchildren, Carson, Natalie, Alex, Avery, Riley, Kaitlyn, Diogo, Cassidy, Addison, Clayton, and Ansley; brothers, Jan (Darlene), Mike (Linda), Lenny, and Guy (Kim); sisters, Sandy (Larry) Schuler and Mary (Geno) Taliano; and many nieces, nephews, and loving family and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, J. Leonard and Margaret Laverne; and brothers, William, Shawn, and Larry (Bernadette) Camera.

Tom was a golfing partner and poker club member for many years. He was always a joy and fun to be with. It is a sad day losing Tom. His smile, his laugh and his dry sense of humor will always be my memory of him. Deepest sympathy from the Cardimen's to the wonderful Camera famly.......Frank

I´m deeply saddened by your loss, Sharon. You and your sons were Tom´s world. What a beautiful life you´ve shared. You made his last years so fun by cruising the world together. Sharon & I were friends in high school and reconnected when they retired to Florida. We´d meet at Sharky´s for lunch or when they´d host a FHS reunion at their home. Our husbands enjoyed one another and we thought Tom was one of the kindest, most down to earth and happy men we knew. He will be sorely missed. So, Sharon, you´re in my thoughts & prayers. Love, Judy

As part of the Great Oaks golfing crew, I spent countless rounds of golf with Tom. He was a great guy, a gentleman and will be missed by all who knew him.

Marlene and I and our family lived across the street from Tom,Sharon and the boys.
Tom and I were golfing buddies. We both lived in the Great Oaks subdivision. Every Saturday and Sunday we played with Roger Shoemaker and John Mallmann at the Great Oaks country club. Tom had a very dry sense of humor. I remember one time we were in a pro shop (not at Great Oaks )and there was a young lady working there for the summer. Tom went over and started looking at the golf hats and she came over to ask him if he needed any help. With a straight face, he asked her if there were any used hats he might be able to buy. Tom will be greatly
missed. Marlene and I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Sharon and the boys.

What sad, sad news this was for us. We met the Camera´s when we bought their house in 1982 and became good friends immediately. We then shared four of the happiest years of our lives together. Rarely have we met a guy as funny, upbeat, positive and beyond fun than Tom. He was kind to everyone and someone we will remember and miss greatly. Praying for all the Cameras knowing the hole he has left in their lives. With love, Jason and Janice

Bill and I always enjoyed hanging out with Tom and Sharon. He was full of joy and great stories. I'll never forget him letting Bill and I drive that 2 seater car around their neighborhood!! Rest in peace.
