Thomas Hubbard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 26, 2025.
Charles Thomas (Tom) Hubbard of Braintree, MA and more recently Randolph, MA, entered into eternal rest on Friday March 14, 2025.

Tom was born on December 4, 1950 at St. Margaret's Hospital in Dorchester, the first-born of Charles Thomas (Tom) and Mary (Clooney) Hubbard. He was raised in Jamaica Plain until the age of 6, when he moved to Braintree where he would ultimately raise his family and spend the majority of his life.

He was proud to be the oldest of Tom and Mary's nine boys, and truly loved (and loved to torment) his eight brothers: Jimmy, Eddie, Frank, John, Joe, Rich, Danny, and Jerry, and revelled in reminding them he was right and they were wrong.

He graduated from Xaverian Brothers High School in 1968 and attended Boston College, where he met his future wife and love of his life Maria (Junco) Hubbard at the age of 18. After graduating from Boston College in 1972, he and Maria were married in 1975 and remained together until his death, just three months shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.

His son Charles Thomas (Tommy) Hubbard was born in 1976, followed by Michael Christopher Hubbard in 1978. His sons were the center of his world, and he committed his life to ensuring that neither would be unemployed and living in his basement as adults. He was also committed that they would never want for bacon, cooking pounds of it every weekend as if he were expecting a small army. He was immensely proud of his boys, and his two favorite activities were watching Michael play sports, and watching Tommy watch Michael play sports.

He was actively involved in youth sports in Braintree in the 1980s and 1990s, coaching soccer, basketball, and baseball. He spent countless hours on the fields at East Junior High and Hollingsworth Park, as well as the courts at Daughraty Gym, the latter of which he would spend every winter Saturday either coaching or refereeing from open to close, and then complaining about his knees for the rest of the night. During that time he made many friends, in particular George Kippenhan and John O'Keefe, two people he considered his closest friends and whom he cared for deeply.

He was a great athlete who played fastpitch softball as an adult, and was an avid golfer. He routinely had one of the first tee times every Saturday and Sunday at Braintree Municipal, and took more pride in how fast he played a round than in his score. His only real fear in life was getting stuck behind a slow foursome.

In 2006 the first of his five grandchildren was born, Brooke, followed by Grady, Jack, Lauren, and Nolan. He loved his grandkids and his role as "Pops" and "Papa", even though he refused to change a diaper because he was "done with all that". He actively followed their participation in sports in any way he could, either in person or through his computer. His grandkids became the center of his world during the later years of his life and he was very proud of all of their achievements; in his eyes none of them could ever do wrong.

He leaves behind his wife of 50 years Maria, his son Tommy and his wife Jenny of Braintree, MA; his son Michael and his wife Melissa of Maple Grove, MN; his grandchildren Brooke, Grady, Jack, Lauren, and Nolan; his brothers Jimmy (Mary), Eddie (Karen), John (Kathy), Joe (Karen), Rich, Danny (Kathy), and Jerry, as well as Michael Cain (Cheryl) whom he referred to as the "10th Hubbard brother"; his in-laws the Baker and Junco families; and his 36 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Frank (survived by his wife Monique), as well as his cousin Marcia and her husband Charlie of Fayetteville, NC, people he loved to spend time with any chance he got.

At his request, there will be no wake or services. A celebration of life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please play ready golf.

Rest in Peace fellow Xaverian Brother and a Golden Hawk of the Class of 1968. Knew of you while in School. May have seen you at a BC Game. A Golf Game with you would have been enjoyable and Memorable. Now you have the time and the best weather conditions. The Hubbard family members are in the thoughts and prayers during this difficult time from the Markey family. Peter Markey Class Agent. 1968.

My deepest condolences to Maria, Tommy, Michael and the entire family .

I will miss Tom and his `dry wit´ , as well as his unbelievable ability to recall every shot taken by each player in a golf foursome at the end of an 18 hole match , truly he had a gift . He will be missed .

Condolences to the Hubbard Family. We were part of the BC Baseball Family as Tom & Maria watched Mike and we followed our sons Joe & Brian. During a between game golf match, I "May" have been driving the cart too fast & caused Tom to topple out of the cart & roll down a hill. Tom´s exaggerated retelling of the story gave us many laughs. God Bless
