Wiley Robert Flynt Jr.ABBEVILLE, Ala. — Mr. Wiley Robert Flynt Jr., 89, formerly of Americus, Ga., died Wednesday evening, Feb. 25, 2009, at Henry County Health and Rehab in Abbeville, Ala. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, March 1, 2009, in the chapel of Aldridge Funeral Services with the Rev. Ken Carpenter and the Rev. Keith Parks officiating; burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday afternoon March 1, 2009, at the funeral home. Serving as active pallbearers are Heath Wade, Coleman Flynt Oliver, Rodney Flynt, Tiff Thompson, Casey Spence, Sam Lane and Eddie Lane. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Dickie Spence, Quinnie Rivers, Ray Whatley, Lee Sprayberry, Chandler Wade, Savannah Wade, Alexis Flynt and Rocky Wade.Mr. Flynt was born Oct. 8, 1919, in Spalding County, Ga., the son of the late Wiley Robert Flynt Sr. and Evie Leverette Flynt. Mr. Flynt was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II in the European Theater. After leaving the service he was an employee with American General Insurance Co., serving on the staff and eventually retired after many years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Americus.Mr. Flynt is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Roslyn Flynt Oliver and Dalton of Georgetown, Ga.; two sisters-in-law Mina Head and Lucille Horton, both of Griffin, Ga. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Heath Wade, Chris Thompson, Don Thompson, Tiff Thompson, Merri Spence, Teresa James and Rodney Flynt; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Flynt was preceded in death by his beloved wife Alma Mae Atkinson Flynt in 2007, a daughter Myrna Dean Thompson and a son Hugh Powell Flynt along with a grandchild Kerri Lane Thompson Wellons.Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association 1512-1 Gillionvillle Road Albany GA 31707.Aldridge Funeral Services, 612 Rees Park, Americus is in charge of arrangements.(VET)Thompson King Speer,ALBANY — Mr. Thompson King Speer, 84, of 1721 Beattie Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany.His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. The Rev. Charlie Brown and the Rev. Tony Haefs will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Kimbrell-Stern.A native of Americus, Mr. Speer was a graduate of Georgia Tech and had lived in several different states working with Lockheed Corporation until he retired from them in Huntsville, Ala., as a electronics systems engineer and was a member of the California Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. He served his country in the Army Air Corps which later became the U. S. Air Force and received his wings at Altus Air Force Base in Altus, Okla.He was a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church, the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class, Golden K Kiwanis Club and Morningside Masonic Lodge in Atlanta.He is survived by his wife, Cornelia Morgan Speer, Albany; sons, Thompson King Speer Jr. and his wife Lisa, Dallas, Ga., Kenneth Stephen Speer and his wife Tricia, Greer, S.C., Kevin Joseph Speer and his wife Patty, Midlothian, Va.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha O’Steen, Jacksonville, Fla.; caregivers, Angela Love and Bobby Edwards; several nieces and nephews and a special thanks to Martha and Ray Johnston.In lieu of flowers please make memorials to Living the Legacy, c/o Byne Memorial Baptist Church, 2832 Ledo Road, Albany GA 31707 or Albany Community Hospice, P.
