Benjamin Dodoo Obituary

Dodoo, Dr. Benjamin Darkufio

Dr. Benjamin Dodoo, age 74, died Feb. 19, 2013 in the emergency room at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx. He was born to Geoffery and Beatrice Tetteh-Dodoo in Accra, Ghana. He was the twelfth child by a larger dimension of the family. Benjamin received his primary and secondary education in Ghana, after which he attended and graduated from the University of Lausanne Medical School in Switzerland in 1972.

Before leaving Switzerland, Dr. Dodoo had met and married Janie, an American. They left together for the USA to settle for awhile in Yonkers, NY as Dr. Dodoo did his internship in medicine at Yonkers General Hospital, and later his residency in medicine at Beekman Hospital. Shortly after his Residency at Beekman Hospital, he gained employment at the medical division of Bankers Trust, later named Deutsche Bank, where he worked as the Associate Director until his retirement. But all during this time, Dr. Dodoo maintained a private practice in Yonkers for the benefit of those who could not afford the high cost of medical care. After his retirement from Deutsche Bank, and till the time of his death, Dr. Dodoo had a position at the Greenburg Health Center in White Plains. He served as an attending physician at White Plains Hospital as well as St. Johns Hospital in Yonkers. And for many years, he was preceptor for students enrolled at New York Medical School in Valhalla, NY. But through all of this, Dr. Dodoo was a dedicated community servant, and well loved by all.

Dr. Dodoo is survived by his two children, Benji and Jan Dodoo; the children's mother, Janice; a grandson, Andrew; a special friend, Christine Vu and the entire Dodoo & Allied Families, home and abroad.

Uncle Dodoo was a huge influence in my medical career, helping me gain a summer placement at Manhattan Hospital which guided me towards my current speciality. A very warm and kind gentleman and it was a pleasure to have known him. Heaven has gained a new member.
