Thomas Keenan Obituary

Thomas Joseph Keenan III

Louisville - Keenan III, Thomas Joseph, 91

"How Sweet It Is"

These are no doubt the first words uttered by Thomas J. Keenan, III as he arrived at the gates of heaven, greeted by his beloved Annie, daughter Mary Cecilia Keenan Craig; parents Mary and Dougherty Keenan; siblings Mary Jo Keenan Shaughnessy and Mardou Keenan. Annie Albanese was the only woman to have his heart from 1st grade. When she died in 2008, he began carrying her picture in his pocket, always anxious to show everyone who would listen to his gentle words about his love. Now they are together.

A third generation Funeral Director going back to 1885, Tom's life and soul were dedicated to helping thousands of families at their time of loss, with compassion and love. In his early years, Tom attended St. Patrick's, St. Xavier, and KY School of Mortuary Science.

A Veteran of the Korean war, his life of service included many years with St. Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus, and the Shively Lions Club where he was a member for 68 years. He was regularly in charge of prayers, and jokes, for meetings.

A devout Catholic, Tom was a founding member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, a member of the Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association and served on the board of Funeral Auto Co.

Left with the legacy of a truly giving, grateful and pure hearted father, are his children, Dr. Thomas Keenan, IV (Tammy), Anne Mary Stakem (Jim) and Maria Berger (Todd); Grandchildren, Thomas V and Anthony Keenan, Joey (Erin) and Anna Craig, Antonia and Abigail Berger, and Great-grandson Jaxon Craig.

Visitation will be Friday, April 9, 2021 at Ratterman Keenan Southwest Chapel, 4832 Cane Run Rd, 12-8. Due to Covid restrictions, his funeral at St. Lawrence is private, but will be live streamed on the St. Lawrence Facebook page. Internment at Calvary Cemetery.

Special thanks to the staff at Nazareth Home for their care and kindness in Tom's last few weeks, and the young ladies from Caring Excellence who helped him in his home for the two years prior. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Mass of the Air.

I´m so very sorry to hear of the passing of Tom. I loved spending days with him and talking about the lovely life he lived. I´m sure the weather is perfect in heaven, no "rainin´ or snowin´." Thank you for allowing me to share some of those memories with Tom and I wish only the best to the family that loved him so dearly when he was with us.

Dear Keenan family
I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Keenans passing. There were so many great times with your family when we were kids.
I always admired your parents for their faith in God and their love for each other. May God welcome then into his kingdom.
