Rock & Roll Jerry Knoll passed away at his home in Michigan City, Indiana, on Sept. 12, 2021.
He was born in Michigan City on June 7, 1967.
Jerry is the son of Stanley Sr. and Lisa (Crane) Knoll, and Roberta Carlene (Walden) Knoll. He attended high school in Houston, Texas. Jerry spent his life climbing trees for a living. As an experienced arborist, he worked alongside his father, Stan, and his four brothers, Boog, Jimmy, Stevie and Robbie, as the supervisor for the family tree business, Knoll & Sons Tree Service.
His father taught him to climb at the age of 15. Jerry was a fast learner and became a master at the art of tree work with a technique all his own. Like his father, he could make an ugly tree look like a beautiful piece of art when he was finished trimming the branches. He had a competitive side when it came to competing with his baby brother and best friend, Robbie, who he took under his wing in the trees. Like his father, Stan, and his brothers, Jerry loved his job and took pride in the work he did.
Jerry had a sense of humor that only few could understand and he would always leave one wondering what he was up to now. He loved spending time with his family, playing video games with his nephew, Kollin, fishing and family holidays. Playing street basketball with his brother, Robbie, his father and friends was sure to bring laughs to everyone. He liked watching the History and Discovery channels, shooting pool, walks on the beach, city festivals, and rock and roll music.
He loved playing the guitar that his father taught him at a very young age. He liked the Chicago White Sox and any football team that was in first place at the time. He loved teasing his Uncle Ed when it came to sports. He loved all his uncles, but had a special connection with his Uncle Ed Knoll Sr. and Uncle Tony Walden. Jerry's love for his mother was like no other and worried every day about her. He loved going places with her and making her laugh. His mother, Carlene, was more than his mother, she was one of his best friends that cared for him every day. He enjoyed hanging in the backyard of his father and stepmother Lisa's house swimming, eating BBQ ribs and all of Lisa's cooking. The happiest and proudest day of his life was when his daughter, Kayla, was born. She was his everything.
Jerry joins in heaven his brothers, Stan Knoll Jr., James Knoll, Stevie Knoll and Robbie Knoll; his grandparents, Jewel and George Walden, Frank and Florence Knoll Sr., and Billy Crane; and special niece, Kelsie Knoll. Surviving are his parents, Stanley Sr. and Melissa Knoll, and Carlene (Walden) Knoll of Michigan City; daughter, Kayla Knoll of Jonesboro, Arkansas; sister, Calla (Brian) Dolph of La Porte, Indiana; brother, Kyle Knoll of Nashville, Tennessee; grandmother, Barbara Yeakey of Portage, Indiana; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and dear friends; and his lifelong partner, Deanna Wireman of Michigan City.
The family asked that each of you plant a tree in remembrance of the Knoll Sons.
