Albert Coder Obituary

Albert Harley (Butch) Coder

April 7, 1954 -

November 1, 2021

Albert Harley (Butch) Coder passed away from heart failure at home on November 1, 2021. Al was born April 7, 1954 in Oregon City, Oregon to Charles William Coder Jr. and Opal Pearl Champlin. He is a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School, Pleasant Hill, Oregon, class of '72. He joined the Air Force and served proudly until he was honorably discharged in 1976 at which time he attended Oregon State University. He married Janis Marie Arlandson on August 26, 1985 at First Baptist Church, Medford, Oregon.

Al was an entrepreneur who thought outside the box, and together Al and Janis started their own graphics business, printing river maps, a safety magazine, countless brochures, as well as selling note cards as fund raisers for local schools. While most of their married life was spent in Medford, Al and Janis lived in Corvallis for five years before their return to the Rogue Valley. It was there they enjoyed sweet fellowship and met lifelong friends at North Albany Baptist Church, leading a college group that included an ensemble that performed at local churches.

Besides an interest in gardening and fly fishing, Al and Janis loved to travel in their motor home and spent countless hours traveling thousands of miles across the western states, visiting numerous national parks. One of their most memorable trips was one they took to the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Besides traveling by motor home they also took trips to Alaska and Hawaii and they enjoyed a two-month journey across the U.S. to Washington D.C. and many points in between. Another trip was planned in November of this year but the Lord had other plans.

Anyone who met Al knew his physical pain from an injury while in the Air Force may have limited his mobility in his later years but he never let that stop him from participating fully in life. They also knew that when the moment came and God called him home, he was more than ready to go. His warm, enthusiastic, vivacious personality will be sorely missed. Al was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Fred Coder. Besides Janis, Al is survived by his children, Wesley and Lisa, two granddaughters, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Friends and family are invited to a "Celebration of Life", Friday, December 3 at 12:00pm where lunch will be served at Eagle Point Grange to honor Al who "fought the good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith" (2 Tim. 4:7). A private service will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Al's name to Love Your Neighbor Ministries, P.O. Box 1886, Gresham, OR 97030; www.lyn.org

I just became aware of your Passing. I too only knew Albert as BUTCH. Butch was Class of 72 and I was Class of 70. He worked at the gas station (Mobilgas Station?) in Pleasant Hill, Oregon and drove his old Pick-up. We always worked on our vehicles together and had fun on Willamette in Eugen on Saturday nights.
Butch was a Kind and Friendly man.

I will miss you my Friend. (Doug)

I knew Butch from 6th grade and befriended him since 7th. I always enjoyed his humor and only have memories of his upbeat positive attitude...ALWAYS! I learned later that he never showed signs of the difficulties in his life. I will miss him at our periodical get togethers.

We are so saddened to learn of Al’s passing. I always had known him as “Butch” and such a warm, friendly classmate. I enjoyed sharing times and stories at previous class reunions. He will be truly missed, but safe in the arms of our Lord.
