Thomas Mast Obituary

Thomas H. Mast

BELLVILLE: Tom Mast knew that there was no secret to success. It was the result of hard work, dedication and selflessness. Working nearly seven days a week, Tom rarely took time off. Proud to support his family, he was content to put in a hard day's work.

His hands now at rest, Thomas H. Mast of Bellville passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday morning March 9, 2014. He was 66.

The son of Harold and Susan Marsades (McLaughlin) Mast, Tom was born May 24, 1947 and graduated from Lucas High School.

Tom worked for General Motors retiring after 33 years. A talented craftsman, his handmade cabinets, end tables, and numerous other crafts, were often given away for family to enjoy.

God fearing, Tom was a family man, filled with kindness and love. His family was his pride and joy. Evenings spent around the bon fire and hot summer days by the pool always had one common thread…family. Patient, Tom was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.

A wonderful grandpa and great grandpa, Tom never ever missed his grandchildren's sporting events. Rain or shine, hot or cold, he was always in the stands, on the bleachers, or in his lawn chair, cheering on his grandkids. When the grandchildren were younger, Tom and Linda looked forward to the annual trip to the Clear Fork Reservoir for a picnic.

Tender hearted, Tom also loved birds. He fed birds and bird watched. Tom had a special friendship with his mixed Golden Retriever-Yellow Lab, Daisy. Having the patience to teach Daisy to add and subtract, and perform other tricks, the two were inseparable.

At home, Tom enjoyed the fruits of his labor and every summer his garden was full of colorful vegetables.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years Linda Mast of Bellville; three daughters Kelley (Tim) Thrush, Kimberly (Steve) Ocheltree, and Kathi (Shannon) Lester all of Bellville; grandchildren Rob (Alesha) Thrush, Rodney (Kieyra) Thrush, Rachel Thrush (Brennan Bartram), Tony Ocheltree, Amberly (Chris) New, Katie Ocheltree, Derek Shafer, Alexis Flynn, Jacob Lester; great grandchildren Stephen, Callie, Paisley, Hailly, Addie, Lincoln, Brayden, Marley, Griffin, and Blakely; siblings Kenneth (Linda) Mast, Linda (Tom) Schulze, and John Mast; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his great grandson Brody Michael Thrush.

Graveside services will be today, Tuesday March 11, 2014 at 3 pm in Bellville Cemetery. Pastor Patrick Bailey will officiate.
