April Rand Obituary

Rand, April M.

April M. Rand, 38, died Sunday September 20, 2015 at San Francisco General Hospital.

April was born Easter day April 10, 1977 in Saint Joseph's Hospital Marshfield, WI to Eugene and Renee Rand. She spent her early years in Marshfield and Platteville. She spent her teen's years in Sherrard, IL where she graduated from high school. She attended one semester at Monmouth College before transferring to College of the Redwoods in Eureka, CA. She then transferred to Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA where she received her BS in Natural Resources Interpretation. During that time she spent two summers working at Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, CO.

After receiving her degree, April stated work for the USDA Forest Service in Florence, OR where she ran a Visitor Center. After a few years, she transferred to the Tongass National Forest in Juneau, AK. A few years later April's feet became itchy again and she quit her job to move to Moscow, ID where she completed her MS in Natural Resources Conservation. During this time, she spent her summers in Jackson Hole, WY working at the Grand Teton National Park.

After she received her MS, she got a job for the California Academy of Science at the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. April was a wondered and could never find a place to call home. She even had a gypsy tattooed on her back. But once she moved to San Francisco, she had found home. She vowed never to leave the place she loved. True to her word, she lived there until her untimely death. She was surrounded by her loving Mother Renee Rand and Father Eugene Rand.

A celebration of life was held in San Francisco at April's favorite place and it was attended by friends from far and wide. Per April's request, she will be laid to rest with a legacy tree.

My dear niece Miss April, intelligent beyond her 38 years, taking advantage of all the opportunities that came her way, always making a difference as she went. Never afraid to speak her mind or correct me when I was wrong "bison not buffalo". I will miss you April, thank you for being a friend.

April was an amazing student for me at Sherrard High School. She played alto saxophone in all the bands (jazz, marching, and concert). A hard worker and fun to work with, she helped making music a great time for everyone. I was much saddened when I heard about this.
