Arthur Meckes Obituary

Arthur R. Meckes Sr., 72, of Towamensing Township, entered into eternal rest Jan. 14, 2022, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, surround by his loving family.

He was the husband of Irene Mae (Hedrick) Meckes. They would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on Jan 24.

Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Albert O. and Marie (Eckley) Meckes.

He was employed as a crane operator for the former Bethlehem Steel until retiring. He currently worked as a bus driver for the Lehighton School District.

Arthur enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and his convertible Mustang, and fixing up old cars including his 1964 Ford Galaxy, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He always wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of and lectured those on the do's and don'ts in everyday life. No matter how these lessons came across, he always had your best interest in mind. We will cherish this and hope he had the same impact on other peoples lives as well.

Surviving, along with his wife, are a daughter Michele Bickert, and her husband Stephen, of Lehighton; a son, Arthur Jr., and his wife Christine, of Palmerton; a sister, Bonita Ohl, and her husband Thomas, of Jim Thorpe; brothers, Albert F., and his wife Bonita, of Schnecksville, Allen, Arlington and Aaron, and his companion Carole Platt, all of Jim Thorpe; grandchildren, Bradlee Bickert, and his wife Mallory, Autumn Bickert, and Kyle Meckes; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Coleman; and his beloved German Shepherd Hotrod

Service: No services are planned per Arthur's request. Donations will be accepted in his name to Gift of Life, 401 N. 3rd St., Philadelphia, PA 19123. Andrew P. Ovask Funeral Home, Lehighton, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Art never pulled any punches when he told you the do's and don'ts of right and wrong when ever working with him at Beth Steel in the Beam Yard for many years. I saw him many times at car shows with other Steel retirees over the years and we always chatted! He was a wonderful person God Bless His Soul!

Our condolences to you and your family. Art and I were not only cousins but friends in our school years. We reunited in our Class of Jim Thorpe 1967 reunions and had remained relatively close until covid drifted us apart. Rest in Peace until we meet again.

Words cannot express the hurt in my heart right now. I loved you with all my heart and the LOVE you shared with everyone else. You went through so much in the past few years, many people would have just thrown the towel in and gave up. Not you! You struggled on day after day, helping everyone and everybody you could. Well enough said but you were an all around amazing brother always wanting to tell me right or wrong. Until we meet again tell Mom,Dad, Brenda and Dwayne Hi. And enjoy your time with HotRod. Always & Forever in our . Love your Sister, Bonnie
