Jack Scott Obituary

Jack Lee Scott
Apr 6, 1949 - July 10, 2015
Our dad, Jack Lee Scott, was born to Betty and Harold Scott in Modesto, CA.  As a child, he spent his formative years in the great outdoors; hunting, fishing, and exploring the High Sierras with his siblings and many cousins. A graduate of Downey High School, Fresno State, and Stanislaus State, Jack was extremely proud of his schooling and his alma maters. In 1969, as an archery instructor at Camp Jack Hazard, a young camper named Teresa Lowry developed a schoolgirl crush on Jack. Although she stole an arrow from him that summer, she didn't set her sights on Jack again for many years. With a little happy luck and the aid of Teresa's brother Frank, she found her target again the summer before she was set to go to college. Jack and Teresa were married three years later. Jack was inspired to go into education by his mother Betty, who was also a teacher in the Salida School District in the 60's and 70's. As a teacher, coach, and principal, Jack touched countless lives and inspired his students to "always be in the relentless pursuit of excellence." He coached over 35 years of basketball, football, track and baseball at Salida and at St. Stanislaus Catholic School. He was a dedicated and very successful grant writer for the Salida School District, generating funds to serve their many after-school programs. Jack made many friends over the years playing tennis at The SOS Club and The Modesto Racquet Club. He loved sports and frequently aided in fundraisers to benefit local area youth sports programs. Dad was a prodigious outdoorsman and Eagle Scout, having hunted and fished everywhere from Eagle Meadows, California to Eastern Cape, South Africa. His favorite way to unwind, though, was with family and friends at his cabin that he and his wife Teresa built near Pinecrest Lake. For all of his sporting endeavors, Jack considered his family the "Best Catch" of all. Jack is preceded in death by his parents Betty and Harold, and his in-laws Dot and Frank Lowry, who considered him a son. He is survived by his wife Teresa, his son Jack Jr., his daughter Jennifer and her husband Dan and their children Nora and James. Jack leaves behind his brother Richard Scott and family, Louise Crawford and family, and Teresa's two sisters and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Jack lived his life with tremendous courage and his spirit was as strong as ever even in the waning hours of his life. His departure into heaven was a sudden one and yet a HUGE win for the Pearly Gates. Everyone who remembers Jack is asked to celebrate his life in his or her own way. Raising a glass of their favorite drink would be quite appropriate. We will honor Dad's life with the celebration of Holy Mass at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church at 2105 Lancey Drive at 9:30 AM on Friday July 17th. A reception will follow. Donations may be made to the Modesto Quarterback Club c/o of Jim Jones - Treasurer, 944 Brady Ave.  Modesto CA; The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, 2401 E. Orangeburg Ave.  #675-189, Modesto CA; or to the Modesto Junior College and Columbia College Foundations.

You are so dearly missed and loved. I can't believe it has been a year since you have left us here on earth. I know you were with Eric and I on our wedding day...I know you are with all of us everyday. Thank you for being amazing and leaving such a legacy.

Jack, it has been a year and I find that I still think about you every day...You were so much of a friend to me. I miss the tennis, golf, fishing and many other things we did. Each time I pass Coaches Corner and Rivets I am reminded of the good food/beer we had together. There are many other things that remind me of you, like when a white Tahoe passes me on the road, I look for that guard on the front, thinking of you. I know you already know, but your photo is still above the bar at SOS, in fact, last night Don and I raised a glass to you!!! You are missed!
Tonight is the last year of Mo Band, and just in case you missed it, I did finally play in the band (first night)..I really wanted to go back at intermission and just have a touch of wine with you....And the times at the cabin, from cutting wood, installing that ceiling above the kitchen, and helping you with hanging those "critters" from Africa.
Buddy, you are sorely missed. Time is so short at times, sometimes it is hard to understand.
And I don't have to tell you how much your family misses you....I Love You, Man

Jackson Hole, You are missed by many, daily. Having lived life on your terms, and possessing such an ability and WILL to do things, I hope you can use that will, in some way, to remind Tree of the old water safety adage, "the only thing worse than a person drowning is two people drowning". You and Tree did the family thing right, Jackson. Thanks again for 55 years of fun. See you on The Big Court someday.

July 13, 2016

It's still hard to believe that you are gone from this world. You really lived your life without hesitation! If you weren't having fun you would be making plans for some adventure. You had a way of bringing people together and always making sure they were having a good time! And I guess that is why it is hard to believe that you could be gone; you were so full of life. This is just a small example of how Jack lived his life. Your family, friends and life were all priorities and for those who knew you we are truly blessed. Your smile we miss but the memories will warm us until we meet again. Love From, Sue, how do you do?

July 12, 2016

Dear Pa, I miss you with all my heart and soul and with every ounce of energy I have and I still cannot believe you are really gone. It's been one year which is unbelievable and just so terribly hard to accept. I feel you with me every day. I just want to hold you in my arms and make this all go away. You were the best, most amazing and selfless husband a women could ever ever be so fortunate to be married to for 36 years. You were the best Dad imaginable and Pa to Nora and JJ.

I love you so much Jack and I find each day so heartbreaking knowing you are not here and you won't ever be again. The kids, our family, and friends have been amazing helping all of us to get through each day.

Thank you for loving me, our children, grandchildren, family, and friends as deeply and honestly as you did. Words cannot ever be enough to express the deep sadness and loss we all feel.

God Bless you Pa.

I LOVE YOU MORE.

It has been a year and a day since our dear, beloved friend Jack passed. He has been sorely missed, and we think about, and talk about him often. He was such a wonderful husband to Tree, and loving father to JJ and Jenny - the four of them spent so much of their time together, it is obvious how much they all love each other.

My fondest memories are with Jack at their cabin in the woods, or at Beach Week! You could always count on him to be welcoming and hospitable! He enjoyed cooking pancakes, and was always prepared with some excellent marinated meat for dinner. He loved entertaining for family and friends.

To Teresa, Jenny and Jack Jr., we hope that in time, your grief, and the pain you feel, will ease and be replaced by your happiest memories of Jack, and the full life he lived. When I think of Jack and Tree, I love to remember the dancing. He will always be missed, but we hope you take comfort in knowing that he lived a full and happy life, and brought much joy to those around him, right up to the last weekend in San Francisco. Love you so much, Lynn and Dennis, Ryan and Brandon.

Teresa, Jenny and JJ, my family's prayers go out to you at this time of memories and sorrow. But we all have such GOOD memories, that we realize the sorrow is from "us" selfishly wanting "him" here. Once we realize this, we can stop grieving (as much), treasure the memories, and be thankful he's in the arms of CHRIST.
Jack was the most influential parent/mentor/friend I had in my first 10 years of teaching and coaching in Salida. As a parent, Jack and Jenny built an A+ mission, As a teacher/coach,what an organizer! He could run an 8 team tourney in a day, as a resource, he had a worksheet for EVERYTHING! As a friend, no one more loyal. Big smiles up to you Jack:)

Jack and I were best friends at Lincoln Elementary and in scouting together. Last time I saw him was at the 30th class reunion of Downey High. He and I recalled fondly our Eagle scout days and I was introduced to his wife. I did not remain in Modesto so it was gratifying to know he recognized me. He was a top notch athlete all through school and a lot of fun. Sad to hear of his passing. I will always think fondly of our time together as kids.

Teresa and family,
Our hearts go out to you. It seems like just yesterday we saw you at the Concert in the Park and everything was so normal. Jack has been a lifelong friend who I will sorely miss (especially the Tuesday golf). Sadly, we will not make the service as we are out of town but know we are there in spirit. In honor of Jack we did as instructed and a group of us raised our glasses in tribute to him. God bless you and the family. I'm pretty sure Jack is already in charge of organizing golf, tennis, and basketball activities in Heaven so it's already a better place.
