Today is a somber day, filled with memories and tears. I will forever cherish those last hours that Carl and I spent together, one year ago last night. My dear Carl, I feel so blessed that I was chosen to be your guardian angel. Of all of the people who loved and cherished you, it was me that was given the opportunity to comfort you and care for you that evening. This was a divine gift to me. I was the lucky one! I surrounded you with warmth, love and comfort that night. I can still see you, sitting here in my home. We talked, we laughed and we cried. I told you how much you meant to me, I told you of the value that you had brought to so many lives. I applauded your efforts and success in raising Steven to be a wonderful young man. I reminded you of the healing touch that you had brought to so many people. I told you how much I loved you. You called me your cheerleader. Yes, Carl, for 20 wonderful years, I was your cheerleader. That was my job.
Thank you Carl…for those very special hours. The memories of our time together that evening bring me amazing comfort and peace. Yes, life goes on….but it still doesn’t seem real or fair that life goes on without you, my dear friend!

It has been almost a year when I lost you and it hurts as much today as it did then. I will be eternally grateful that I had you in my life even if it was only for 11 years. You were the nicest, most considerate and big-hearted person that I have ever known. You wanted to help and heal the world. If only I could have helped and healed you. We thought of you with love today but this is nothing new. We thought of you yesterday and the days before that too. We think of you in silence and often speak your name. All we have now are our memories and your picture in a frame. It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone. A part of us went with you the day God took you home. Forever in our hearts dear friend!

I just learned of Carl's tragic passing and my heart goes out to all his friends, family and especially Steven. I have been out of the Myrtle Beach area for over 3 years now but tried to call him and did not get a working number. I called a mutual friend to see how he was doing and was told and was shocked over the unfortunate news. All of the comments listed are so accurate and true of Carl. He was and still a great person in every respect. We played tennis and golf and shared mutual friends. I always sought him out because of his wonderful personality and enjoyed sharing the good times with him. Carl was a wonderful and caring father and person and a strong competitor, always an outgoing person and he really did have the best hands in his profession and treated everyone first before himself. He will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew him and literally by all those he touched.

I remember every time my uncle came back to town. We would be in the car and he would point out just about every single house or store and give me the entire history of what it use to be and who lived there. It was like being in a class but he always had something interesting to say. He always told me about everything that was happening in SC. About Steven and the rest of the family.

The last time I saw my Uncle was 2 weeks before he passed. I was moving to Florida and decided to stop and see my Cousins graduation. We sat and talked for about an hour at Uncle Danny's Restaurant. When my mom called me and told me the news I couldn't believe it. It's so hard to believe someone you had just talked to could be gone.

I Love You Uncle Carl
And Always Will

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Miller. He did the best reflexology Ive ever had. I've been gone for most of the summer. I called the other day to make a appt. and found the office closed.
He loved his work and loved to talk about his son.
God bless his family.

Oh Carl! Why? Words cannot even express the deep sadness in my heart. I am sad, angry, hurt, and every other emotion possible. I loved you and I always will. Whenever I would come down to visit my folks home here in NMB my first thought was always of you. I remember all of the great times that we shared over the last 15 years: going to see Jerry Seinfeld, the Quinton Tarantino movie, going Outback tonight, my favorite K&W, playing in all the mixed doubles tournaments and always losing, trips to the US Open, etc. I still vivdly recall the last time that we got together in early March at the K&W right after your birthday. You were my first friend in Myrtle Beach. My love, thoughts and prayers go out to Steven and the rest of your family. I watched you raise Steven and Steven grow up to be a wonderful young man. You did a remarkable job as a single dad. You should be very proud. I hope that you find peace and that there is some great tennis in heaven. You are a VERY SPECIAL person, you have touched my heart and life and I will never stop thinking of you. When you left this earth you took a piece of me with you. LOVE YOU ALWAYS!!! BECKY HARR

My heart really broke when I found out about "Doc". He was a very special and wonderful man and always nice to me. He was not only my doctor and my moms boss but he was like an uncle to me. Whenever I saw him he would always ask me how my life was and if I had a problem would always give me advice. My kids have known him since my oldest was 3 and from the day my youngest son was born and they are now 13 and 10. Whenever I waould go to the office so I could get an adjustment if he didn't have anyone else in the office he would walk my kids to the gas station and buy them drinks and candy and I know they will miss that and they thought alot of him. Everytime I saw him I would just smile which led to him giving me the nickname "Smiley" "Doc" I love you and I will miss you greatly. You will always and forever be in my heart until I get to see you again.

Right now my heart is feeling such pain, because I have lost someone I have loved all my life.Carl was a unique and special brother, who provided our family with many,"Oh Carl", moments. He made us laugh, cry and think deeply. He was always a gentleman to his mother and sisters. I wish to express my appreciation for all the kind words and thoughts for my brother. Carl was so fortunate to have so many wonderful people touch his life. It makes me happy knowing so many people will carry such nice memories of Carl with them. In these memories and thoughts his spirit will live on. Over the past week I've come to accept that some things in life can never be understood and some questions never answered. Those who knew Carl knew he was always questioning. My Mom always thought he should have been a "Philadelphia lawyer" because of his questioning nature.Perhaps he is with her now asking a million questions and I know she is the one who can help him find the answers that will bring him peace.

I knew Carl from about the 7th grade at MCS. We shared many classes and worked together on the yearbook staff. He was a great and gentle classmate and I enjoyed seeing him at class reunions. I am shocked and deeply sadden by this news. I was just telling someone the other day that my classmate, Carl had become a Chiropractor but lived in South Carolina.

My deepest sympathies go to Joe; Carl's son, Steven; and to Carl's entire family. I remember you all so well from our years at MCS.

Please know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Just found out about Carl yesterday and wanted to express my deep sadness in the passing of a true friend. Steven... know that your Dad was proud of you and that you were a shining portion of his life. We talked often of you and my daughter growing up together through the years.

Carl and I through the years shared laughter on the golf courses, knowledge of life's lessons over meals and the aches associated with years passing. Our Optimist Club years helped define him as an advocate of youth.

My prayers and condolences go out to Steven with the hope that you will remain strong.

Our family just returned from vacation and learned of Carl's passing... and I was amazed at how he had just been in my thoughts recently and how my husband and I had a wonderful conversation about Carl. I had the pleasure of getting to know Carl through our mutual membership in the North Strand Optimist Club. David and I always enjoyed the many conversations we had with Carl when he came into our store, we would talk about his business, life's ups and downs, and always about his son Steven...forgetting that we had businesses to run! We will miss Carl, but feel blessed to have called him our friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and always, and may you draw strength in the blessings of the richness of Carl's life.

After relocating to the area a few years ago Carl was one of the first Chiropractors I met. He always offered help and as others say he was a deep thinker. We would occasionally discuss professional issues and his ethics were very high. If I had a difficult case sometimes I would call Carl for advise, he was very skilled as a Chiropractor and the Chiropractic profession will miss him!!!

June 22, 2009

Over the past 5 years Carl and I became close friends. We played tennis together, ate together, and went dancing with mutual friends just to mention a few things that we did together. Carl and I shared and talked about our problems almost every week.
Carl was a true friend and I miss him so very badly. We carpooled to league tennis matches together and had many deep conversations about life in general.
Carl was the best Chiropractor that I have ever been to and believe me I have been to quite a few. He cured my tennis elbow when the medical doctor could not.
Carl was always honest, caring and considerate of others. My greatest sympathies go out to his family especially to Steven. Carl I hope to see you in heaven someday. I will always have found memories of you. Also, Carl introduced me to the love of my life and I acknowledge that I will always be indebted to him for looking out for me.

Steven know that your dad talked about you all the time and that he loved you very much.

June 22, 2009

Carl was one of the dearest men I have ever known. I met him during a particularly difficult time in my life and he was loyal and supportive from the start. I know many of our friends will agree that the world was a better place because of him.

One day he did reflexology on my feet and I was amazed at how it worked. He was a wonderful and gentle healer. He tried to teach me to shag in spite of how well he knew how much a of a sassy Yankee I was, arguing with him about who should lead. I could go on about his kindness and generosity, gentle spirit, intellectual depth, and his remarkable ability to see things from all sides. We had many converations about life, particularly parenting teenagers, and love, which he knew was meant to be patient and kind. He brought me and CT together, somehow knowing how well we would fit together and complement each other. We had so many good times. I miss him terribly.

I will always hold him in my heart as a sweet, empathetic man of honesty, integrity, and genuine humility.

God bless you my dear friend. Kara Harniman

I am so very sorry for your loss. Carl was not only my Chiropractor, but a good friend and tennis partner. We had not played together lately, but have played as mixed doubles partners in the past. Carl will be truly missed by all who knew him. He was a kind, caring gentleman who loved to help people.
Carl made a lasting impression on me several years ago when I was injured in a tennis tournament. Someone suggested that I call him for help. I made the call on Friday night around 9:30 pm and he told me to meet him at the office early Saturday morning. He also agreed to treat me on Sunday as well, because he knew I was in a lot of pain. I always reminded Carl that he "fixed me" in just 2 sessions and I was extremely grateful. He strived very hard to give his patients the utmost care. I will miss seeing Carl on the tennis courts, as will many others.

He was a great man, very kind, loving and more than generous. He had a good heart and a wonderfully warm smile.

I was deeply saddened when I learned of Dr. Millers passing. I was a patient of his from years back, but I always thought of him fondly and with great respect. He was a true healer and a wonderful person. I remember he even tried to help my greyhound regain some mobility after he had a stroke. Even though he was not a canine chiropracter he made very effort to try to help him. He was kind, caring and with a love for all. Dr. Miller you will truly be missed. Dear Steven and the rest of Carl's loved ones.

Needless to say Kay and I were shocked and devastated to read of our friend and compassionate Chiropractor's youthful and untimely passing.

Our thoughts and sympathy go out to all of you especially Steven, who Carl always made a special point to brag about and to beam about like the proudest Father on the Planet each and everytime we were together.

Please know that Carl was not only a doting Father, but was truly a gifted "healer," with a kind and generous heart as big and as full as the universe.

We'll bet that he has already set up his own compassionate practice inside the pearly gates, and is already joyfully immersed in helping the other angels feel better.

Sadly, now residing in Virgina, we will not be able to share our heartfelt loss with you tomorrow, but we assure you that we will be shedding tears of both sadness and celebration with all of you at that moment.

Bless you all, and Carl we will surely miss your booming voice (especially your laugh), your compassion, your healing hands and, especially, your very precious friendship until we meet again!

Just this past Wednesday night Lee Edge and I saw him and spoke with him when he was playing doubles in the early evening with two ladies who I did not know, and Dr. Peter Bussee. Lee had told me that Carl had been going through some tough times lately, so we decided to stop hitting for a moment and go up to the court he was on and say hello.
Today he is gone.
Today, we who knew him, and who cared deeply for him, are so very saddened by this loss of such a good fellow and friend.
Carl was a consistently honest, intelligent, generous, caring to a fault, and always a polite gentleman.
Carl was also a very humble man.
His honesty most probably limited his income in his chiropractic practice, because he did not lie to his patients, and he did not order unnecessary X-rays or tests, in order to pad a patient's bill.
So many of us here, and especially in the tennis community, were the recipients of Carl's generosity, as we often limped into his office for an ache or sprain or ailment,, never having to fill out any paper work, and rarely being charged for his treatment,, and his genuine concern,, always leaving with a pat on the back or a handshake and his words,,"Let me know if that helps,, come back in if that doesn't fix it and we will try something else."
Carl never charged me a penny for his help and knowledge. I never got one bill.
He did let me take him to lunch a few times and we usually talked about some pretty deep issues.
Often times we spoke about God and religion. Carl was a curious man, and a man who was always questioning and thinking. If he is in heaven at this moment,, and I believe he well may be,, he is asking an awful lot of questions. He will keep them busy there answering all of his questions,, and they will be good, intelligent questions.
Carl, we will all miss you,, especially every time I walk onto a tennis court. You will be remembered here for many years to come.
You were a gentle and generous man.
We have all been very proud to call you our friend.

My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead. Carl was a friendly and caring person. The few times I was with Carl, I enjoyed his sense of humor and the way he made you feel special. He talked about his son and how proud he was of him. He will be missed.
