Victor Long Obituary

Victor Murray Long
July 8, 1959 - February 5, 2018
Myrtle Beach
Victor Murray Long, age 58, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 5, 2018. Born July 8, 1959 in Savannah, GA, Mr. Long was the son of the late Thomas E. Long and the late Anne Bostwick Long.
Mr. Long was a Data Base Administrator at Horry Telephone Co-Op and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired from the military in 2013 as a Lt. Colonel and Commander of the 117th Air Control Squadron, Air National Guard.
Mr. Long loved his country, anything on television about space, the salt marshes of Georgia where he spent his youth, and most of all his family. He was so very proud of his son Brian who followed in his footsteps by joining the Air Force and his daughter Caileigh who followed in her mother's footsteps and became a teacher. He gladly welcomed a new son when Caileigh married Jay Dennis of Conway. The four of them will miss him more than words could ever say.
Mr. Long is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Brenda Williams Long, his son Brian Murray Long of Nellis Air Force Base, NV, and his daughter Caileigh Anne Long Dennis (Jay) of Chapel Hill, NC.
In addition, Mr. Long is survived by two brothers, Thomas E. Long, Jr. (Ann) of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Larry Long (JoAnn) of Statesboro, GA, two sisters, Peggy Anderson (Robert) of Savannah, GA and Beryl Bunch (Esra) of Mobile, AL, and his mother-inlaw Peggy L. Williams of Myrtle Beach.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Michael Bye officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Vic was my cousin, military brother and good friend. He always had a kind word for everyone. Though I finished my military career at a different unit, it was a great honor to serve with Vic at the 117th. He will be greatly missed.

To the Long family I share in your loss and I am deeply saddened by the passing of a dear friend and mentor. I served with Vic my entire 23 year career at the 117th , including being the MC at my retirement. I have fond memories of the professionalism, attention to detail and amusement we found time to muster when the mission wasn't going quite right. I will miss him dearly but never forget the positive impact Vic made on my career.

Vic was my neighbor and my friend, I had become good friends with his son Brian and we fished together, whether it was when we met on his early morning walks or when he was out in his yard he never had a bad word to say about anybody, he will truly be missed.

Vic was highly regarded at HTC, and only positive words were ever spoken about him. His passing is a huge void to all who knew and loved him. I feel as though I really missed out by not knowing him better. My prayers and sincere sympathies go out to the entire Long family.

I was very sad & stunned to hear that Vic passed away. I was a member of the 117th ACS for 26 years and was a close friend of his. I retired before he became Commander, but he deserved the advance in career more than some. I will miss the opportunity to spend time with him in our retirement. I will pray for his family in this time of grief.

Fare well Colonel.

I met Vic at HTC. He was a great guy. We both often spoke of our careers in the Air Force as well as his son just starting out on his adventure in the Air Force. Vic will be missed very much. His entire family is in my prayers. May he now rest in eternal peace.
