My first memory of Drew is meeting him at Yankee Stadium. I was freshly sober and met Drew through our mutual friend Anil. It must have been 1991. I remember how warm and funny Drew was right away. He related to people with an ease and comfort that was unmatched.
We became friends and were connected for years by AA, and writing and, of course, baseball. Over the years Drew was a source of lightness and humor. He was always kind and supportive and said some of the nicest things to me that anyone has ever said.
I still think of him often, perhaps because I related to him so strongly, but also as someone who touched my life in a truly beautiful way. He was one of a kind. I am grateful that I had the experience of knowing him.

What a beautiful tribute to Drew.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I was friends with Drew at ASU during our "formidable years". I have many great memories of Drew whether it was playing intramural softball, discussing politics, arguing who was better Roberto Clemente or Reggie Jackson, or conversations about Lou Reed and Sid Vicious at our ASU PREP Club meetings. (Punk Rockers Evolving Progressively!)
When I think of Drew I'll always remember that he had a great, deep laugh that was contagious.
It's warming to know that he gave back to so many through school, AA, and his work with little league baseball.
Drew to me was the kind of person that if I saw him today, I know we would pick up right where we left off 40 years ago ribbing each other and laughing for most of our conversations.
I am grateful for the moments we had together "back in the day". And I'm sorry for your loss.
