Barbara J. Lucyshyn, age 85, of Wilmette, IL. Beloved wife of the late Peter S. Lucyshyn. Loving mother of Andrew (Catherine) Lucyshyn and William (Amy) Lucyshyn. Proud grandmother of Carolyn, Megan, Allison, and Kate Lucyshyn; Reagan, Ramsey, and Renata Lucyshyn. Dear sister of Robert (Pam) Blackstone. Fond Aunt to six.
Barbara was born in Niles, IL and settled in Wilmette with her husband and their 2 children. She was a graduate of Purdue University in 1963 with a B.S. in Education and had been a lifetime member of the Purdue Alumni Association. She taught 2nd grade in Elgin, IL and at Hoffman School in Glenview, IL and eventually worked as a tutor and teacher's assistant at Harper School in Wilmette. Barbara served her local community by participating on the Board of the Friends of Wilmette Public Library and remained active after her term. She was an active member of the Northridge Women's Club and donated her time to Holy Comforter church in Kenilworth. She enjoyed traveling, having visited Europe after graduation, skiing in Montana, Michigan and Europe, and then enjoyed yearly trips after Peter's retirement to such places as Vancouver, Alaska, New Zealand and Australia, and Ireland with friends, along with the annual summer trip to the family's cottage in Carnarvon, Ontario. She also visited many national parks hiking and enjoying the outdoors. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, skilled knitter, avid bowler in the Michigan Shores bowling league and enjoyed playing bridge every month with a special group of friends. She was a great baker and well known for her fruit pies, forever remembered as bringing "Lucy Treats" to her son's baseball games.
