Derrick "Buzz" Kirby, 45, passed away on April 18, 2025, in The Woodlands, Texas. Born on January 14, 1980, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Buzz lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to education and faith.
Buzz earned his Master of Science in Education and went on to make a lasting impact as both an educator and spiritual leader. In 2008, he was ordained as a pastor-a calling that re ected his deep sense of purpose and care for others. His ministry was not con ned to the pulpit; it extended into classrooms and communities where he inspired countless individuals through his words and actions.
A devoted educator, Buzz brought innovation and enthusiasm to every endeavor. One of his most notable contributions was introducing LEGO League (robotics) to New Waverly ISD. This initiative not only fostered creativity and teamwork among students but also re ected Buzz's belief in nurturing young minds through engaging and meaningful experiences. He motivated his students in multiple ways, always striving to help them reach their full potential.
Buzz's life was rooted in love for his family. He is remembered with deep affection by his wife, Kimberly Kirby; his son, Keyton Kirby; his parents, Mike and LaVaughn Kirby; and his brothers, Darrin Kirby (Cassie) and Darryl Kirby (Michelle); his grandfather, Rolland Rushing; and various aunts, uncles, and cousins. Their lives were enriched by his presence-his kindness, strength, and unwavering support.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sam Houston Funeral Home, located at 1700 Normal Park Dr, Huntsville, TX 77340. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Pine Prairie Free Will Baptist Church, located at 80 Phil Wood Rd., Huntsville, Texas 77320. He will be laid to rest at Pine Prairie Free Will Baptist Cemetery following services.
Buzz's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched-as a husband and father, a son and brother, a pastor and teacher. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
