Dexter Boone Hamon
June 13, 1937 – May 24, 2025
Dexter Boone Hamon was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 13, 1937. He enjoyed playing basketball in his youth, especially in high school. He graduated from W.B. Ray High School. He attended The University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Sigma Nu. He spoke fondly of his days at the University of Texas with his fraternity brothers. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and majored in Math. He enjoyed traveling in his youth with his parents and his sister, Mary Sue. This is what led him to pick the Navy, so he could travel more and take lots of pictures. After graduating from The University of Texas, he served in the United States Navy from 1961-1965 as a Lieutenant Junior Grade on the USS McCain. He spent time in Japan, Cambodia, and Laos. He spoke often of his time in the Navy and how beautiful it was overseas. Dexter's favorite time as an officer was on his ship when he would help to navigate.
Dexter began working for NASA in Houston as a computer programmer after serving in the Navy. He enjoyed being a part of a team in a time when space exploration was brand new. He enjoyed being back in Texas and close to his family again after being in the Navy.
Dexter married Susie Defenbaugh Hamon on July 14, 1984 and gained a whole family with her children Michael Patterson and Michelle "Shelby" Patterson. They settled in Clear Lake to raise their family. He truly enjoyed watching his stepchildren and later his grandchildren in their activities.
Dexter greatly loved history, western movies, and baseball. His lifetime hobby of antiquing led him to many garage sales to find a treasure. He knew the answers to most trivia questions and had great conversations with everyone he met. He had a great laugh, always had a joke ready, and was a wonderful listener. He will be truly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.
At the time of his passing, Dexter lived in Clear Lake, Texas. Dexter is preceded in his death by his wife, Susie Hamon, his parents, Everett Dexter Hamon and Susan Scott Hamon, his sister, Mary Sue Bloomfield, his brother-in-law, Boyd Larry "Corky" Bloomfield, and his nephew, Everett Bloomfield. He is survived by his stepson and daughter-in-law, Michael Patterson and Heather Patterson and their children, Sydney and C.J., his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Michelle "Shelby" Patterson Adkins and Mike Adkins and their children, Penelope and Jasper. Surviving family also includes his niece and her husband Lauren Bloomfield Burns and Andrew Burns and their son Jack.
A Celebration of Life will be at The Crowder Funeral Home, 111 East Medical Center Boulevard, Webster, TX 77598 on July 12, 2025 between 12pm. and 2p.m.
