Evelyn Mujais Mitchell

Evelyn Mujais Mitchell, age 90, a lifelong resident of Canton, Ohio, has gone home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 29, and is now free of sickness and pain for eternity, what a joy! She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Mitchell; her parents, Joseph and Alya Mujais; her brothers, Jimmie Mujais and Samuel Marshall; and her sisters, Lulu McCauley and Dorothy Kerstetter, among many other beloved family members and friends.
Evelyn, a proud graduate of McKinley High School and Otterbein College, lived a beautiful and full life serving the Lord and His people. She had a long career as an educator, first teaching physical education and coaching basketball at both Dover and McKinley High Schools and later as the Principal of Christian Ministries Day School from 1972 until it closed in 2001. Evelyn has also served on the Board of Elders at Christian Ministries Church for over 50 years as well as the Secretary/Treasurer of International Ministerial Association from its inception in 1986 until she had to retire for health reasons in 2017.
Evelyn and George raised two sons who survive her: Paul (Amy) and Jonathan (Shirley). Evelyn's daughters-in-law were as much daughters to her as if she had born and raised them. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Sarah, Daniel (Erin), Kaytlan (Kyle), Joseph (Sara), Benjamin, and Jesse. She was blessed to be a great-grandmother to Warren, Adeline and Vaughn! She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Evelyn, who became a young widow at age 48, eventually came to be regarded as the de facto matriarch of our nuclear and extended family.
We are grateful and humbled beyond words for the care shown our mom over these last few months of serious illness, including several family members and friends; Aultman Hospice, Visiting Angels and Bethany Nursing Home; and for the many years of loving care of her friend and sister, Carol Barnard.
Evelyn had a great capacity to love and serve. Not only her family, but also many people locally and worldwide have been touched by the love of Christ through her ministry to them.
Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel is handling arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, May 6 from 4 to 7pm. We will celebrate her life Saturday, May 7, with visitation at 10:00am and service at 11:00am, followed by interment at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to any charity of your choice that furthers the kingdom of God.
