Frances Whitmire Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Evans Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, Inc. - Jefferson on Jul. 22, 2024.
Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Frances Crawford Whitmire, age 83, of Cedar Bluff, Alabama who entered rest Sunday July 14, 2024. Mrs. Whitmire was born in Felton, Georgia the daughter of the late Tince Crawford and the late Willie Beatrice Tinsley Crawford Berry and the daughter-in-law of the late Annie Samples Whitmire and the late Eddie Omer "Whit" Whitmire Sr of Jefferson, Georgia. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Omer "E.O." Whitmire Jr.
Mrs Whitmire graduated from Buchanan High School and then moved to Atlanta, GA, where she started a career as a secretary that lasted nearly 50 years. She married EO in 1962, raised two sons, and was an active supporter of their sporting, scouting and school activities. When they became grandparents, she and EO bought a house on the lake in Cedar Bluff, AL to be closer to the grandchildren. Over the coming years they were a constant presence at little league and high school baseball and football games and their house hosted many crowded holiday dinners and sleepovers for the grandchildren.
Mrs Whitmire was an avid reader, loved refinishing old furniture, and was a fan of Braves baseball and Ga Tech football. As she approached retirement, she traveled extensively, including Italy, Australia, and most parts of the US. After EO's passing, she took in a stray kitten Jasper, who kept her company in later years. She loved her porch at the lake house and was blessed with many wonderful sunsets.
Survivors include sons Michael Whitmire of Atlanta, GA and Eddie Whitmire III (Angie) of Acworth, GA. Three grandchildren, Lucas Whitmire of Rome, GA, Jacob Whitmire of Cedar Bluff, AL and Josh Whitmire (Kayleigh) of Centre, AL. Sister, Shirley Cagle of Cedartown, GA. Sister-in-law Joanne Whitmire Tyson of Atlanta, GA. And numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Mrs. Whitmire's wishes, she will be cremated and a service will be held at a later date.
