James Winters Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaines Funeral Home - Maple Heights on Apr. 23, 2025.
James L. Winters, Jr., aka "Junebug" born on September 26, 1955, to the late James L. Sr. and Christine Winters, was a man whose life was defined by dedication, family, and an unwavering passion for mechanics. James attended the Cleveland Public School System, now known as the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD), and proudly graduated from East High School. His time there laid the foundation for a lifelong journey of hard work and resilience.
For 33 years, James worked for the Cleveland School Board, ensuring the safety and reliability of school buses-vehicles that carried generations of children to their futures. Upon his retirement, he was remembered for his exceptional skills and deep commitment to his craft. Beyond his career, James's love for automobiles was unparalleled. There wasn't a make or model he couldn't fix, and his remarkable expertise inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
James had another passion that brought him joy: roller skating. Whether gliding across the rink or teaching his moves to others, skating was his way of finding community, fun, and creativity. It was a hobby that truly reflected his vibrant personality.
James leaves behind seven grandchildren, four children-Elonzo Harvey, James L. Winters, III, Cyara, and LaCresha Morris-as well as a host of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory. He is also survived by his siblings, Rose, Twila, Demetrius, and Raymond. He is now reunited in rest with his parents, James L. Sr. and Christine, as well as his siblings who preceded him in death: Essick (Vicky), Orlander (Lanny), and Francina (Fran).
