Marie Kastenbauer

Marie A. tenCate Kastenbauer, of Mora, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at her home. She was 70 years old.
Marie was born on October 21, 1954, in Milaca, Minnesota, to Henrik and Gertrude (Bos) tenCate. She grew up on the family farm in Ogilvie where she loved all aspects of farm life, especially the animals. She graduated from Ogilvie High School in 1972. While still in high school, she began working in the dental office of Dr. Childress in Mora while continuing her studies to become a dental assistant. Marie spent most of her career working for Dr. Junnila in Ogilvie, until she retired in 2016.
In her younger years, she was baptized and raised in the Christian Reformed Church. Over the years, she was an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist and Lewis Lake Covenant Churches. Marie was proud to volunteer for the "Soup for the Soul" meals and was always willing to help anyone in need.
On August 14, 1987, she married the love of her life, Bob Kastenbauer. Bob and Marie took many trips to the North Shore to collect agates, stopping along the way to shop and to enjoy the spectacular views.
In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, quilting, making homemade soaps, and baskets. In the summer, you could often find her outside in her flower and vegetable gardens, canning, or shopping for great finds at garage sales and thrift stores. She had a deep love for her chickens, which included various breeds of laying hens. Marie enjoyed making caramel rolls in the kitchen, lovingly referred to by grandkids as "Buttery Rolls."
Marie deeply cherished her children and grandchildren, finding immense joy in their accomplishments and the love they shared. Their support filled her heart with warmth, reminding her of the beautiful bonds that truly mattered in life. She cheerfully attended her grandchildren's activities, eagerly supporting and celebrating them at every opportunity. Her absence will be deeply felt, and she will be profoundly missed. Though her journey on earth has ended, her heavenly journey is just beginning. And while this is a bittersweet reality, it doesn't lessen the sense of loss we all feel in the light of the hope we all have.
Marie is preceded by her parents Henrik and Gertrude (Bos) tenCate, and sister Joanie Ericson.
Marie is survived by her husband Bob; children, Phillip (Emily) Carlson, Katie (Chris) Uttke, Kelsie Carlson (Tonia Kittelson), and Tim (Amy) Kastenbauer; grandchildren, Corban, Jadon, Asher, MaKayla, Willow, Cody, Jesse, Anna, and Titus; sister Faye (Mike) Londgren; brother Rick (Patty) tenCate; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vance Ericson, Judy (Marvin) Sundet, Joyce (Douglas) Kroening, James (JoEllen) Kastenbauer, Bonnie Zarn, Doreen (Michael) Holland, and Paul (Karla) Kastenbauer, and by many nieces and nephews and other family members.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 17, 2025 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mora with Pastor Joe Reed officiating.
Memorial Visitation will be held 2 hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 am
Light refreshments will follow the service.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
