Marlene Parrish Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Corsicana on Apr. 26, 2025.
Marlene Parrish, age 89 of Corsicana, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025. She was born on October 9, 1935, in Kerens, Texas, to Ola Mae and Jester Weathers.
Marlene was a proud graduate of Kerens High School, Class of 1953, where she played basketball, was a member of the drill team, and married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Shelton. Though their paths later parted, she went on to build a strong and inspiring life devoted to her children and family.
She spent her entire life in Navarro County and worked tirelessly to support her family. Over the years, Marlene held many roles-working for the Adams Hat Factory, in advertising for Woolworth and the newspaper, and eventually owning and operating Shelton's of London Square Men's Wear Store. In 1980, she married Don Parrish, and together they embraced a life in the country, where she became a homemaker.
Marlene loved her family deeply. She enjoyed raising racehorses, spending time with her grandchildren, and especially cherished Christmas and large family gatherings. She was a fantastic cook, known for her ability to make just about anything-and for teaching her family to do the same.
She is survived by her sons, Lynn Shelton and wife Jamie, James Shelton, and Darrell Shelton and wife Cindy; grandchildren Courtney Jenkins and husband David, Jacob Shelton, Jerod Shelton and wife Hayley, John Shelton and wife Mary, Whitney Hill and husband John, Sarah Moore and husband Ethan, Zachery Shelton and wife Alison, and Wilson Shelton; and 11 great-grandchildren and a host of other friends and family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don Parrish, her parents, and her sister Chris Westbrook.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3:15 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Derek Rogers officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Shelton, Jerod Shelton, Zack Shelton, John Shelton, Wilson Shelton, and Garrett Shelton.
Marlene will be remembered for her strength, devotion, and the love she shared so freely with her family and all who knew her. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to The Village at Heritage Oaks for their compassion and care, and to the caretakers Erica Simms, Debbie Anderson, and Debora Porch who lovingly took care of Marlene. Your kindness and support meant the world during this time.
