Marshall Xavier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory - Ball on Mar. 4, 2024.
Dr. Marshall Francis Xavier, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024 at his home in Staten Island, New York. He was born on October 29, 1967 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was the youngest of three children of Retnam Francis Xavier & Grace Philomena. Marshall began his Christian journey while living in Malaysia when he received the Holy Ghost at the age of twelve and was later baptized in Jesus name. Dr. Marshall received his undergraduate degree in Hospitality Management and began to pursue a career in hospitality management education. While working as an instructor, he met and married the love of his life, Vani Sothinathan. Shortly after their marriage, the two were called by God into the ministry. Since that time, both have worked tirelessly to spread the gospel around the world for 32 years.
Dr. Marshall served as a National Evangelist with the United Pentecostal Church of Malaysia from 1995 to 2001. In 2001 Marshall and Vani became members of The Pentecostals of Alexandria (POA) and were sponsored by the POA as they planted and pastored churches in Malaysia from 2003 to 2004 and then in New Zealand from 2004 to 2009.
In 2009 the Lord led the Marshalls back to Alexandria, LA. During their time in Alexandria, Marshall served as the Director of Evangelism & Outreach Ministries and as the Administrator of the POA Training Center from 2009 to 2018. He also served as Assistant to the Pastor at POA
God called Marshall once again to evangelize in 2018. Though sad to leave Alexandria, Marshall began traveling to churches within the United States to assist with evangelism and growth. During this time, not only did Marshall obtain a Master of Arts degree and a Doctorate degree in Divinity from the Christian Bible Institute and Seminary of Houston, Texas, but he also established Marshall International Ministries (MIM). At the time of his passing, Marshall was working tirelessly to reach the homeless and immigrant communities of New York City.
Marshall is loved by many in the United States, Malaysia, and New Zealand, and he will be greatly missed. He was a true soul winner and built lasting relationships wherever he went.
Dr. Marshall is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vani, and his siblings Marie Harding, and Alex Xavier.
Funeral services will be held at The Pentecostals of Alexandria in Alexandria, Louisiana. Visitation is Tuesday, March 5, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm with memorial service at 7:00pm. All are welcome to attend.
Final Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Pineville, LA
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the POA Street Ministry.

My condolences to Sis. Vani Marshall and Mary Harding and Marshall Xavier. He was and still is very much loved by my family and the pentecostals of cooper city. I loved everytime the Marshalls came and early on he would get his guitar and worship. As beautiful as hearing Sis. Marshall sing I loved his singing with his guitar. We miss him terribly but we are so happy that he is with his beloved Jesus.

With love,

On behalf of the boys of La Salle Brickfields Class of '82 (LSB82), I extend my heartfelt and deepest condolences to Vina and the family of Marshall. His sudden departure took us by surprise as it was only on Feb 14 that I received his Whatsapp message that he was planning a trip to KL in Sep. We were all looking forward to seeing him again. I did manage find two photos we took together during his visit in 2019 - the few of us who met him had a gala time recollecting fun during our early school years together.

Marshall always brought that infectious cheer and smile that would light up an entire room. His selfless work and dedication to God was inspiring and although sad from his departure, we knew God had other plans for him. He must be having fun catching up with old friends and up to his usual mischeviousness.

Rest in eternal peace Marshall. You have earned it. We will see each other again.

I never met Brother Marshall. I follow his page on facebook and I always thought how devoted to the kingdom he and his wife were. I would see videos on Facebook about some of the kingdom work they did and I would feel inspired. I never met him but I felt inspired by his ministry, the joy I saw in him and his faithfulness.

What a tremendous loss to us, but GAIN for Bro. Marshall. He left his impression on our family by befriending our son and mentoring him for a season. To Sis Vani - we´re praying for you and that the PEACE of GOD would surround you in this time of loss.

When Bro Marshall came to be with Bayside Apostolic Center in Los Angeles, CA, I knew he was sent by God! So much have I gained Spiritually while he was here and stayed in contact through the years.
When he and Vani left to New York, I was so excited for them and partnered with their mission to build a church for God. I am so thankful that I did!
The loss of Bro Marshall is difficult for many around the world because of the lives he dearly touched! My heart was crushed to hear of his passing, but yet at peace knowing he is with the Lord. My thoughts and prayers are with you all in your time of grief, especially for Vani! I hold very fond memories of Bro Marshall and thankful to God that I am truly Blessed having known him!

Brother Marshall was one of the greatest lights on this earth. He had Jesus´s heart a servant´s heart here on earth. Bro Marshall you loved people just like Jesus. You encouraged me and we had fun and laughs while you were in Groveport, Ohio.
The day I learned you went to reward I found the Jake mug you and Sis Vani left for with me until we met again my friend.
I still dwell on what you spoke into my life and I will cherish it and do my best to fulfill it.
The bottle of The End hot sauce is one of my funniest memories where Sis Vani tried to spare me in the kitchen where she threw away my toothpick and you sneaking it to me any way and I could hand the heat amazed you.

Your see you later gift was my own bottle of that hot sauce.

Thank you mighty man of God for showing your love and sense of humor to others and representing Jesus to lost, hurting and broken.

This one hurt here on earth but I will see you later!

I am so thankful that God allowed us to meet Marshall. He was a genuine and welcoming person. He was like family to my daughter and I. His smile and laughter was contagious, you couldn't help but smile too. He always welcomed my little girl with a warm hug. And as time went on Marshall became her Poppi and she became his granddaughter. I will never forget his love for us. And I know he would have loved our newest daughter all the same.

It's never good bye, it's until we meet in glory!!
We love and miss you very much Poppi Marshall

Bro Marshall and I shared a sense of humor with the funny section of the newspaper and our love for our dogs and Jesus. He seen what most others don´t. The heart of people. Everyone has a story. He listened.
He believed in me. He told me POA should be home. He said I had the heart of a southern lady and I would be used in big ways. Watch and see. When I would need a friend he was there with his sense of humor and a positive perspective, in my life. I was sopose to call him once I got moved. It´s 2 weeks away. You have left an impact on my life. Love and prayers for Sis Vani his Siblings, family and the Manguns.
