With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Michael Lenard Jackson on February 27, 2025, at the age of 73. A devoted husband, father, and friend, Michael was known for his unwavering dedication to his country, his community, and his life's work.
Michael proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, embodying courage, resilience, and an unshakable commitment to duty. A true patriot, he upheld the values of honor and service throughout his life, carrying those principles into every endeavor.
Following his military service, Michael became an author, sharing his experiences into Hell and Back, a powerful memoir that chronicled his journey through hardship and triumph. His words resonated with many, offering profound insight into perseverance and the strength of the human spirit.
Beyond writing, Michael was a successful entrepreneur, owning and managing various businesses. His sharp business acumen, coupled with his deep sense of responsibility, earned him the respect of colleagues and peers.
Perhaps his greatest legacy lies in his dedication to helping others. Through his nonprofit, Think Then Choose Wisely, he provided support to children in need-a mission that later evolved into Growing Petersburg Garden, a farming program designed to instill self-sufficiency, ethics, and the value of hard work. To many young men, women and children, Michael became the father figure they never had, changing lives through his kindness, mentorship, and unwavering support.
At the heart of his journey was his one true love, his wife Evelyn Diane Jackson, his partner in life for 47 extraordinary years. Their bond was built on love, respect, and a shared commitment to making a difference in the world.
Michael is survived by his wife Evelyn who recently lost her dear brother Tony Moody as well as their beloved fur baby, Charlie. He is also survived by his cherished family including his brother Adrian Jackson and a host of cousins, dear friends, and those he welcomed and loved as family over the years. His passing leaves a deep void, but his legacy of integrity, service, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at UPMC Harrisburg Chapel, 1st floor at 5:00 pm and another one at a later date in Ecuador to honor Michael's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Bailey House of UPMC-Harrisburg in his memory, ensuring that his spirit of generosity lives on.
Rest in peace, Michael. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Your legacy of love and service will continue to guide us all.
