Peter Thomas Kavanagh

Peter Thomas Kavanagh, 86, of Greenwood Township, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024, in the comfort of his home.
He was born October 27, 1937, in Yale, the son of the late William C. and Emily B. (Gleason) Kavanagh.
Peter married Ruth Ann Avis April 27, 1959, in Emmett. They had a beautiful life together raising their three children, Peter Jr, Laura, and Tamara.
Peter attended Cotter Country School up to the 8th grade before switching to Yale High School where he graduated from. After graduation, he took a short course at Michigan State University Farm Equipment Sales and Service. He worked in the Farm equipment and Dairy business most of his life until retirement. Peter was known for giving back and was very active in several groups. He was the Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #282 Emmett, Brockway 4-H leader, past parishioner and member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Council, current parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, President of the Usher Club, President of the Village of Capac, member of Knights of Columbus Father P.J. Culhane Council #8710 in Yale and held the positions of treasurer, Deputy Grand Knight, Grand Knight and Trustee. He was also a member of Forth Degree Cardinal Mooney Assembly #2032 in Imlay City where he was the treasurer. Peter will be missed by many.
Surviving in addition to his wife Ruth of 65 years are two children, Peter Jr. and Laura (Ellwood) McConnell; grandchildren, Danielle, Corrine (Ean), Kayla (Justin), Hayley (Colten), Leah (Tanner), James (Heather), Angie (Dave) and Heather and 16 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Bill, Jack (Barb), Tom (Shari), Jim, Larry (Judy), and Mike Kavanagh; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamra Reppert; grandson, David McConnel; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Linda Kavanagh; and nephews, B. Joe and Tommy Kavanagh.
The family honors the memory of Peter and invites you to visit and share memories Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with rosary devotion at 6:00 p.m. and Thursday, July 25, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale. Rite of Christian Burial will follow Thursday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yale. Fr. Michael Gawlowski, visiting pastor of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Yale.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital or American Cancer Society.
