Robert Rea Obituary

In Loving Memory of Robert Rea
October 30, 1942 – October 19, 2024
With heavy hearts, we, his proud daughters Kerry (Mike) Turgeon and Kelly Yensel, announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, Robert Rea, at the age of 81. Dad grew up on the Southside of Chicago in the St. John Fisher neighborhood, where he formed lifelong friendships that endured throughout his life.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ginny, his brother Tom, and his parents, Tom and Ruth, Dad's legacy of love and loyalty is carried on by those who survive him. In addition to his daughters, Dad is survived by his sister Eileen (John) and his brother Jim (Carole), along with his six grandchildren-Ryan, Katie, Meghan, Jack, Will, and Joseph-who brought him boundless joy and pride and who he loved very much.
At the age of 60, Dad suffered his first set of strokes. Despite the challenges, he fought back time and time again with remarkable strength and determination. Through it all, he always had a smile on his face and never complained, showing the same kindness and positivity that endeared him to so many.
There wasn't anyone who met Dad that didn't like him. His kindness, humor, and warmth touched everyone he encountered. He was a parent, grandparent, brother, uncle, cousin, and a friend to so many, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. We always said we hit the jackpot when it came to parents, and Dad was truly one of a kind.
Dad spent many years working in sales, where his dedication and integrity were evident in everything he did. Later, alongside our mom, he proudly took over ownership of Gilhooley's Grande Saloon, a beloved neighborhood spot where his welcoming nature made everyone feel at home. While living in Beverly, he also volunteered his time as a Christ the King Football coach, where his mentorship shaped the lives of young athletes.
Though we will miss him deeply, we are comforted knowing that he is reunited with Mom. We will forever hold dear the love, laughter, and memories we shared. His legacy of kindness, resilience, and deep connection to others will live on in all of us.
We love you, Dad, and will carry your spirit with us always.
