Willard Jake Doss

HURT --Willard Jake Doss, 86, of Hurt, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Gretna Health and Rehab.

Born May 15, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Thomas E. (Tom) Doss and Hilda Florentine Layne Doss.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gustava Dawson Doss, three sons, two brothers, one sister and a daughter-in-law, Judy Neal Doss.

He was a retired employee of Burlington Industries and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Doss enjoyed gardening and sightseeing in his car.

He is survived by three sons, David Doss of Altavista, Owen Doss and wife, Donna, of Evington and Ray Doss and wife, Sue, of Gretna; four daughters, Carolyn O'Connell and husband, Steve, of Gretna, Judy Colbert and husband, Phil, of Hurt, Molly Lambert and husband, Mike, of Hurt and Elsie Roberts and husband, Keith, of Hurt; two brothers, Frank Doss and wife, Eunice, of Rustburg and Joe Doss and wife, Helen, of Altavista; two sisters, Mamie Hudson of Hurt and Betty Trent and husband, Gene, of Brookneal; and 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Altavista Memorial Park by the Rev. Stephen Byrd.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Nov. 5, 2009, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his daughter, Carolyn O'Connell, 2085 Gallows Road, Gretna.

Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, is assisting the family.
