William T. (Thomas) Allen, 93, died unto Christ on Friday, July 10, after a brief period of declining health. Visitation will be at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines, NC, Monday, July 13, from 6 to 8 pm. A service of thanksgiving for Thomas' life will take place Tuesday, July 14, 11 am, at Friendship Baptist Church in Bunnlevel, NC. Burial, with military honors, will be at Bunnlevel Cemetery. Thomas was born in rural Bunnlevel on March 11, 1922, the son of the late Mary Barnes and William Herman Allen, Sr. Thomas graduated from Lillington High School in 1940. In 1943, he received a degree in business administration from Oak Ridge Military Academy. During World War II, Thomas served with the United States Army 109th Finance Disbursing Section in the European Theater of Operations. After discharge he became a civilian employee of the finance department at Ft. Bragg, NC. Thomas operated Allen and Jones Grocery in Bunnlevel for ten years before being appointed Tax Supervisor of Harnett County, a position he held for twenty-five years, until retirement in 1986. Thomas leaves his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth (Lib) Pate Allen; a son, Tom, and wife, Beverly of Whispering Pines, NC; granddaughters, Hannah and Sarah Allen and nephews, Tom Pate of Burlington, NC, Jim Allen of Lafayette, IN, and Kyle Allen of Cary, NC.
