Gannon, Edward J
Edward J. Gannon, 90, of North Haven, formerly of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital/St. Raphael's Campus with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 66 years to his "Lovey" Patricia Rogan Gannon. Edward was born in New Haven on February 9, 1930 and was the son of the late Walter and Anna Meroth Gannon. He graduated Sacred Heart Elementary School, James Hillhouse High in 1947 and the former Quinnipiac College. Edward was a proud American who served his country faithfully in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked at the former Brock Hall and Knudsen Dairies for many years until his retirement. Edward had many hobbies, gardening, painting, puzzles, model trains, but most of all fishing on his boat " ESEA Rider". He enjoyed building and painting birdhouses for his family and friends and feeding the flocks of birds who would visit his yard. Edward was a faithful Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan. He was a man who loved life, family, was the best grandpa, "Poppy", gramps and will be greatly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Father of Pamela (George) O'Donnell, James (Denise) Gannon and Lynn (Paul) Gambardella. Grandfather of Patrick (Shandra) and Brian (Ashley) O'Donnell, Emily, Tommy and Faith Gambardella. Great-grandfather of Brayden and Camryn O'Donnell. Brother of Janyce Gilman, Marilyn (Bob) Kozin, Margie (Bill) Slater and the late Walter Gannon, Arlene Murphy, and Ann "Nancy" Halligan. Brother-in-law of Jack (Pat) Halligan, Jim Murphy, Eleanor Rogan, Peggy (Donny) Frawley and the late Bob Gilman, Regina Rogan, Barbara Suprono, Francis Rogan, Barbara Spambanato and Betty Lou Gannon. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The family thanks his many doctors, especially Drs. Monaco and Cordido and all the health care workers who helped him through many health challenges over the years. Edward enjoyed a long life because of them.
The visiting hours will be Thursday morning, Jan. 28th from 10:00 to 11:30 at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon in Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue North Haven. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. (masks and social distancing strictly required for all services)
