LEE SHULL Obituary

SHULL--Lee, New York Theatre Devotee and Philanthropist, 1945-2021. Lee Shull, lifelong resident of NYC and Redding, CT passed away peacefully at her home after a long illness. Lee's love of theatre began with her introduction to the arts by her late father Leo Shull, known as the 'Lion of Times Square" who was creator and publisher of the iconic weekly publication Show Business. Lee's stepmother, Claire Klar Shull, was a director and documentary film producer. In honor of her father, she founded the Leo Shull Foundation for the Arts to support developmental programs for artists and was among a select group that helped contribute to the vitality of the American Theatre through such organizations as the Drama League and the New York Public Library. Ms. Shull graduated from Parsons School of Design. She had an illustrious career in fashion as both a designer and a trend forecaster/researcher. She was the epitome of elegance with an effortless style and grace that was admired. Lee Shull is predeceased by her beloved husband Hillard Pearlstein in 2002, a prominent dermatologist with whom she traveled the world and collected art from Africa and underdeveloped countries and her brother David Shull. Ms. Shull is survived by her husband's sons David Pearlstein and Michael Pearlstein. Lee loved to spend her weekends at her Redding home where she loved to host dinner parties, roam the antique markets and cultivate her forever "flower" garden of permanent and whimsical sculpture. Her love of life will always be remembered. Donations can be made in memory of Lee Shull to Memorial Sloan Kettering, American Diabetes Association and National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

Lee and I were freshman in Root Cottage at Syracuse U. She came to our wedding in 1966 and we still have the beautiful candlesticks she gave us as an engagement gift. We haven't connected since that very long ago time, but is so sad to hear of her passing. I love to tell people of the ring she wore on her elegant hand and when asked to see it she said it was a gift from her brother David from a cracker jack box. Love that story and can still see that ring as well as her beautiful face. Pam
