To the Greer Family,
We remember Matt as a little boy with red hair, a quick smile and a bright-eyed twinkle. To our son, Josh, Matt was a friend - always fun, always game, always up. None of us really understood the extent of private courage Matt displayed. Now, we are new grandparents to a brand new little girl. And while we wish her so much happiness, we also wish for her to have the strength, dignity, and courage that Matt owned in spades all these years.

I too am very lucky to have met Matt. He always had the biggest smile on his face when he would pass by me in the moring on his way into the office. We both have the same birthday and he used to give me grief every year b/c I am a few years older, ok 8 years. Among many things that will remind me of Matt, NASCAR will be the #1. Matt rest in peace my friend.

I met Matt freshman year at Syracuse. What a great guy! Always a pleasure to be around and always had the greatest energy. We used to scream his name out of excitement when he walked into the room. I only have great memories of him. Sending my thoughts and warm wishes to his family. –Jen Eagle

We only met Matthew a few times, and we observed the closeness and joy of you as his family at his and Natasha's wedding--not that long ago.

He came thru as a very fine young man, caring, personable, intelligent--all of the things one wishes to have in their children.

And yet is gone so soon; we don't know what to say to you other than we are so sorry, and hope that your memories are of consolation to you.

Though I shared many carefree times with him, the last time I spoke with Matt was several years ago. The man had such an in-your-face zest for life that I have a difficult time imagining him gone. His passing is truly a devastating loss. My thoughts are with Relty's entire family and friends.

Matt was a colleague and friend, and there are not enough words to describe his great qualities. Matt was a gentleman, and always had a smile and something positive to say. In retrospect, and given Matt's health condition, I better understand why he did things the way he did them. Unlike most of us, Matt did enjoy life to the fullest, he enjoyed every day, and made sure to have a healthy balance. While he was much too young to leave us, Matt lived a full life that many of us should aspire to.

I didn't know Matt that well, having only worked with him only a few months, but with some people you can 'just tell'. He was a very sweet man and always made me chuckle when we did speak. Condolences to his family, he will be missed.

Dan DeBeer

April 17, 2008

Last night I sent a message to Matt’s Fraternity Brothers and here are some responses I have received so far.

From Dan DeBeer:
Matt to me was a brother(fratnerity). I have sooo many fond memories I will cherish for a life time. I was listening to Sirius Satellite Radio today (4/17) and everyday @ 7:00am they do a segment on the Grateful Dead channel called this day in Grateful Dead History. I said to myself man...I wish I could request a song for Greer. The one tune I remember he loved was Saint of Circumstance...and I realized what is the opening line. "This must be heaven"

It ends up they played 2 songs from 4/16/89....Saint of Circumstance > Truckin', someone was watching over me/him!
My deepest sympathies go out to him and his immediate family.

With much love.
Dan

From Eric Galkin
So many memories with him and all of us....

We met the first couple of day of school.
We both lived in Delplain and talked about rushing TEP and making it our house.
Dead Shows
3 Years of living together
Many parties at his house in Armonk
My wedding, his wedding

It is not too many memories to remember but too many not to forget. He lived his life to the fullest always. He went balls to the wall and enjoyed everything and everyone.

Not to have any real siblings in life makes this hurt more to know that I have lost "a brother"

Nothing more to say

From Mark Madden
Hey Dan,
I can't really believe that my Bat Cave roomie, the man who introduced me to reggae beyond Bob Marley, is no longer with us. I have not seen him for many years but I had always thought we would meet again.
If you speak directly to the family please pass on my deepest condolences. I didn't know Relty had a family. It is so sad, he was much too young...
He will be missed.

It is a sad state of affairs. Thanks for spreading the word.
Let's get that east coast Toe reunion going.

From Jack Gutt:
Dan,
I am so sorry to hear about Relty. It obviously comes as a shock and, even though it has indeed been a long time, the good memories are no less real and present. Please offer my deepest condolences to his family and do let me know where/when the service will be held in NY tomorrow.

All the best,
Jack

From Bob Rietzel’s Wife Emily:
Hey Danny,
Don't know if you remember me but I was the Emily in "Bob and Emily" from TEP days. I saw your email about Matt Greer - how sad. I remember his face mostly. He was quiet so I can't say that he was well known to me.
Emily Rietzel :>)

From Ken Souser:
Dan,
Thanks for passing on the sad news.
While I never got to know Matt I certainly knew who he was. As a new father myself, my heart goes out to all who are affected by Matt's passing especially his wife and son..It's certainly amazing how brotherhood can last a lifetime as long, or tragically as short, it may sometimes be.
Fraternally yours,
~Ken Souser
