Willie Bolden Obituary

Willie Ruth Bolden, age 68, of Merrillville, IN, transitioned home to be with the Lord on February 4, 2022, after a very short and unexpected illness. She was born on September 1, 1953, in Gary, Indiana. She married the late Donald Bolden, and to this union, two daughters were born, Dana and Desireé. She dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at an early age at New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the Senior Usher Board and Sunday School. Ms. Bolden retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years of service as a mail carrier. On her days off from the USPS and post-retirement, she went back to her first love, education, by being a substitute teacher for the Gary Community School Corporation. Ms. Bolden also had a heart for service. She was an active Girl Scout troop leader for over 20 years and loved working for the after-school programs at the YWCA in Gary and Boys & Girls Club in Merrillville.

Ms. Bolden was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Sam Moore, Jr. & Willie Mae Manuel Moore; grandfathers, Andy "Big Daddy" Manuel Jr. & Joseph Moore; grandmothers, Annie "Big Momma" Manuel & Minerva Moore; ex-husband & dear friend, Donald M. Bolden; sister, Jessie Mae Frazier; and dear friends, Johnny Isabell and Ritha Logan. Ms. Bolden leaves to mourn and cherish her memories: two devoted daughters, Dana M. (Quentin) Hunter and Desireé M. (Avian) Hughes; loving twin sister, Annie R. Moore; faithful brothers, Chester L. (Camille) Moore and Larry D. (Evora) Moore; grandchildren, Jordan, Jameson, and Jazz; grandpups, Rocky, Sheba, and Nandi; nieces, Erika (Everett) Underwood, Lauren Moore, and Lindsey Moore; nephews, Camerin Moore and Logan Moore. A host of cousins, Godchildren, other relatives, and loyal friends.

On Friday, February 11, 2022, Visitation will be held 12-8PM and family hour from 6-8PM at Guy & Allen Funeral Home, 2959 W. 11th Ave, Gary, IN 46404. On Saturday, February 12, 2022, Visitation will be held 9-11AM and Funeral Service at 11AM at New Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 1917 Carolina Street, Gary, IN 46407. Rev. W. N. Reed, officiating. Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery. Please wear masks whether vaccinated or not.

We got to know her when the girls attended Sister Thea Bowman School and became affiliated with the girl scout troop there.
