Rudy Cherkasky Obituary

Rudy Cherkasky

Appleton - Age 92, passed away at his home on December 29, 2020. Rudy was born on September 21, 1928 in Appleton to the late Benjamin and Anna (Fullet) Cherkasky. After graduating from Appleton High School in 1938, he went on to from UW Madison. He joined the family business, Quaker Dairy; eventually taking it over from his father in 1970. Rudy married the love of his life, Arlene Specktor on March 21, 1954. They shared 64 wonderful years together before her passing in 2019.

Rudy led a very active life. He had a lifelong love of sailing and power boating as well skiing in the UP, The Rockies and Europe. He was a member of the Fox Valley Tennis and Racquet Club and played regularly. He also had a creative, artistic side. He was a serious and award-winning photographer since he was a young man and later in life became a prolific landscape painter.

He also gave back to his community being an advisor to SCORE for many years. He was a mentor to many young entrepreneurs and helped start many new businesses. The Quaker Dairy eventually became the Quaker Bakery Company, and he sold the company to his son Miles in 2001.

He will be greatly missed by his son, Miles (Laureen McMorow) Cherkasky and daughter Jody (Paul) Swanson; his grandchildren: Alexandra and Michael; a brother, William (Gloria) Cherkasky and many nieces and nephews.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Simon Cherkasky.

Private family services will be handled on Sunday, with burial at Moses Montefiore Cemetery, Appleton. Memorials may be directed to Feeding America Eastern WI-Fox Valley.

The family would like to extend a deep and heartfelt thank you to Tom and Mary Smith, for their enduring love and friendship; and also, to his nephew, Dr. Alan Cherkasky.

Rudy became a dear friend through SCORE. His friendship and his sense of humor will be missed greatly. Rudy was an e-card me of having a reason to get up in the morning. He lived to be around people. I loved being around Rudy. RIP my friend❤

I volunteer for SCORE as did Rudy for many, many years. Rudy helped numerous entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses. He truly cared about people taking the risk to start a business that needed business know how, skills and capital.
I remember one of his clients who started a flooring company describe Rudy as a grandpa who watched over and encouraged them. Rudy often told me he should quit SCORE because he didn't want to learn the latest computer changes that were being implemented. I encouraged him to continue mentoring as he had so much know how to help them.

I was very sorry to have him resign in 2019 after his wife died. Now he can rejoin her.
Blessings to all of his family.
