Marc Cranmer Obituary

December 12, 1944 - July 2, 2017
Marc Cranmer, age 72, passed away peacefully at his home July 2, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Marc was born December 12, 1944, in San Francisco to William and Martha Cranmer. He grew up in San Mateo and Mountain View, and graduated from Mountain View High School. He attended Tulane University until his 23" birthday when he enlisted in the United States Army. Marc attended Officer Candidate School ending his career as a Captain in the Army serving his beloved Country in Vietnam and Korea.
Following his military discharge in November 1972, he returned to Mountain View and married Ann Boys. Marc continued his education and graduated from John F. Kennedy University with a Master of Arts in Psychology in June 1978. Marc worked as a Marriage and Family Counselor and Drug Abuse Counselor until his retirement.
Marc was a constant learner. He loved to read and learn about ancient civilizations, American history, and military heroes. He and his wife Carrie were blessed with 11 years together and traveled the world; they danced under the stars in St. Marks Plaza, kissed under the EiIfel Tower, saw the pyramids of Egypt, and lastly sailed the Baltic Sea. They shared a love of travel and adventure, but above all else, each other.
Marc was most proud of his military service and family, daughter Christina and husband David Bavencoff and granddaughters Taylor and Kaylie of San Diego, and son Justin of Tucson, Arizona. He was a mentor and friend to Carrie's three sons Stephen, Daniel, and Matthew and his wife Karilyn. He is also survived by his father and mother in law James and Blanche Smith, sisters and brothers in law Linda and Bruce Fitzgerald, Darrell and Beverly Smith, and John Christensen, as well as nieces Sara, Kristen, and McKinley. Marc is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Foster, a United States Marine who was killed in action in Vietnam at the age of 22.
Marc's ashes will be buried at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego on August 11, 2017, in a private ceremony with full military honors, a fitting tribute for an American hero.
