Richard Boyer Obituary

Richard R. Boyer 1935—2018
Richard R. Boyer, 82, of Rockford went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 2, 2018. Born October 27, 1935, in Pearl City, son of Paul and Orlena (Thompson) Boyer. Richard graduated from Pearl City High School, Class of 1953. He attended Northern Illinois University. United in marriage to Joanne Baumgartner on September 29, 1956, in Freeport, IL. Richard was employed in Industrial Maintenance at Bourne & Koch Co., Circle Boring, Rockford Screw Products and All Rental Garment. He was a member of Maywood Evangelical Free Church from 1979-2014, where he served as a Deacon and Trustee and participated in Bible studies. Recently, he attended Red Brick Church in Stillman Valley and Stonebridge Ministries in Rockford. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved the happy chaos of those he loved most surrounding him. He was a baseball coach for his boys in their younger years, and a Boy Scout leader. He was incredibly patient with his grandchildren and retained his childlike sense of discovery throughout his life. He was skilled at fixing anything and everything mechanical and served as the project foreman of his son's extensive remodeling and addition project. Survived by his wife, Joanne; sons, Brian (Liz) Boyer of Machesney Park, David (Melesia) Boyer of Rockford, Eric (Sue) Boyer of Lake Zurich; grandchildren, J.R. (Kara Butler, and her son, Trace Butler) Boyer, Gabe Boyer, Blake (Brittany) Boyer, Haley (Andrew) Vincent, Raegan (Jonny Montville) Boyer, Dillon Boyer, Kyra (David) Mazanowski, Jake Boyer; great-grandson, Carter David Mazanowski; brother, Boyd Boyer of Kent; sisters, Donna Kempel of Freeport, Deborah Hughes of Baton Rouge, LA; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and an extensive circle of brothers and sisters in Christ. Preceded in death by his parents; son, Todd Franklin Boyer in 1995, and dog, Remington. Richard's family is grateful to the staff and health professionals at Davita, Presence St. Anne's Center and ParaTransit for their compassionate and loving care.
Visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2018, at Stonebridge Ministries, 7281 Old Creek Rd., Rockford. I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved husband, grandpa & great grandpa that you all are having.....but we know where he is - rejoicing with those who have gone on to that glorious home before him.
Joanne, on Aug 2nd I was going to call you to see how he was doing but didn't get it done - is that heavenly intuition or what!!
I'm sorry I didn't get to the service today but my knees are getting worse so I guess I'm headed for replacement which I have put off for a long time. Love you - as I know the Lord gives much comfort & peace at a time like this.

Joann When I first came to Maywood you and Dick were the first to take me under your wings and love me unconditional. Dick was so loving and his jokes kept me laughing for days. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

Blessings

Joanne,

You and Dick were among the first persons we met when we began attending Maywood. We will always be grateful for your gracious welcome and unconditional acceptance. Dick was a sweet, sweet man, and I know he will be sorely missed. I sometimes think that funerals, even home-going celebrations, are more for those left behind than the dearly departed. We know where Dick is now. It's the loss of his presence in our lives that we grieve. Please know you and your family will be in our prayers. May your many wonderful memories provide great comfort.

Blessings,

Gayle Talley
