Jesus Hall Obituary

Jesus R. Hall, faithful son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, born February 7, 1931 in Eagle Pass, Texas to Mercedes Martinez, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 14, 2008. Mr. Hall played both semi-professional and high school baseball and was considered one of Eagle Pass's best pitchers. Shortly after leaving high school, Mr. Hall enlisted in the United States Army where he reached the rank of Sergeant as a member of the 28th Infantry Division. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Mr. Hall held a variety of construction jobs before moving to San Antonio and joining Rufus Walker & Company Construction Specialists. At Rufus Walker, he rose from the position of truck driver to senior sales manager and was a loyal employee for 47 years. Mr. Hall enjoyed carpentry work and home improvement and built several additions to his home as well as constructing numerous wooden shelves, desks, table and cabinets for friends and family. Mr. Hall was also a skilled wood carver, handcrafting a variety of wildlife figures, unique toy animals and a chalice in his backyard shop he named La Carpenteria. An avid hunter, Mr. Hall found solace in roaming the brush county of South Texas hunting whitetail deer. He took pleasure in barbequing for his friends and family - often cooking a wide variety of meats at once to satisfy all of his guest's tastes. Throughout his retirement, Mr. Hall delighted in spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren, listening to country music and rancheras, viewing old western movies and telling stories about the remarkable people and places he encountered in his life. A devoted father, he took time from his busy job to attend his children's sporting and musical activities and continued that dedication with his grandchildren's endeavors. He will be remembered for his unflinching generosity, his compassionate demeanor and his loving soul. Mr. Hall always had a special place in his heart for children who were impoverished and orphaned and made endearing efforts to honor those who served in the military. Hard work and dedication were the cornerstones of his life and his steadfast commitment to caring for his wife throughout her illness exemplified his legacy. Mr. Hall is preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years Leticia Rubio Hall, mother Mercedes Martinez and great-grandson Christian Ramon. He is survived by brothers Felipe, Rudy, Ernest and Ray Martinez and sisters Dora Fierro, Rosalinda Lopez, Janie Martinez and Maria Sanchez, five children, Lupita and Frank Collazo, Linda and Gilbert Vasquez Jr., Jesse Hall Jr., Fr. Richard R. Hall, OMI, and Edward and Brigitte Hall; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all those who have expressed words of comfort and prayer. The family will receive friends Sunday at the Oblate School of Theology - Immaculate Conception Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ROSARY SUNDAY OCTOBER 19, 2008 7:00 P.M. To all of the Hall family, but espcially Eddie, Ryan and Hannah. We were so very saddened to hear of your father's and grandfather's passing. We have some wonderful memories of Jesse's wonderful barbecue and his gracious hospitality. He was such a very special man. We know you will find comfort in knowing he is in the arms of Jesus now and with his beloved wife again.

To Hall family

I am sadden to hear about the passing of you father, he was a wonderful man that I had the pleasure of knowing. Not only him but Mrs. Hall as well, they took me me in as if I was their own. I will never forget the times I spend with your family on the weekend eating and laughing and having a good time. I know he and Mrs Hall are in a better place cooking up a storm waiting on us all. May God bless the Hall family and I look forward to see all of you soon.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hall family in this difficult time.
