James Webb Obituary

James Alan Webb

Born June 12, 1943 to Al and Louise Webb in Seattle, WA, Jim died on December 14, 2019 of a cancer related infection. He grew up on Mercer Island and went to the U of W, majoring in Journalism. Jim lived in the Union Hill area of Redmond for 41 years, where he loved to take his and local dogs for long walks. Later in life he had a winter home in Marana, AZ.

Jim's life was full of music. He loved concerts, especially the Rolling Stones. Jazz Alley was a common hangout of his. Jim's travels around the world were often with KPLU jazz tours and music festivals. He went to Kenya, Bhutan, India, Russia, Australia and all over Europe. He collected art, especially Pacific NW art. He loved movies: old, new, good and bad. Jim's career was in advertising which spanned projects from computer software to "Do the Puyallup", which he coined. His sense of humor will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his brother Terry (Vicky) Webb, nieces Konti Devi Webb, Heather Kirkland, Heidi Lesmeister, nephew Derek (Harmony) Webb, stepson Chris (Abby) Walls and grandson Forrest. To honor Jim's memory, please consider supporting Child Fund International.

Can you imagine a man so generous that he would befriend a Connecticut black woman of meager means and email her for all the years since they first met on a KPLU jazz tour sharing news of his adventures, his joys, his family. It was a privilege that I will always treasure.

Jim bought a nice home in Marana,AZ in 2011. I met Jim in 2013 at a Tucson Museum of Art big dinner party that was held at my house.

We soon became friends because we shared a love for music, reading, art, films, travel, good food, (especially Asian) and laughing.
He was a supporter of the Tucson museum, the Fox Theatre, the Tucson Jazz Festival and The University of Arizona. He took classes and supported their musical and theatre productions.
He loved art and was creating quite a collection. I am honored to have several of my paintings in the collection in his Marana home..

Jim loved the local music scene and attended countless concerts in the Rialto Theatre. He was often in the best seats in the house for many of the headliners that came to perform in Tucson. Jim introduced me to musical groups he loved like, Pink Martini, Post Modern Jukebox and The Max Raabe orchestra from Germany. Jim loved a life that included lots of live music and supporting professional musicians and artists!

Even though Jim was what we Tucsonians call a a snow bird, hearing from him when he returned to Redmond happened several times a week. He stayed in touch with quite a few people by finding amazing stories and photographs and sharing them ( often with a comment by him) . I think that was one of his hobbies and part of his desire to stay in touch.

I miss Jim, his neighbors in Marana must miss him very much because he really cared about them! Jim really loved his family. He talked often of his son and their child.

I have saved his countless emails and will probably never delete them.

James was the 1st neighbor to welcome us back in 2003 when we moved in and we always appreciated that. We enjoyed visiting with Jim when he stopped to talk, while out on his daily walks with his dog. Super friendly and always willing to help, we will miss you Jim a great deal!

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. We were young in the ad business together. Many laughs and happy memories.

Jim and I were friends in college where we both majored in Journalism/Advertising. He was remarkably talented and creative, and a nice person too. My condolences to his family.

Jim, your sense of humor, love of reading, and your Elvis lifesize cutout will always be happy memories for me. What I liked best was talking with you when you walked Star. We had some great conversations. Thank you for keeping the neighborhood contact list. You are missed, and I was fortunate to meet you. I hope your soul floated down to AZ and your hovering in the sun.

'Knew him only as a classmate at MI schools, but remember his wit and intelligence with fondness and admiration.
