John Joseph
Bartlett
SPRINGFIELD - John Joseph Bartlett, 51, of Springfield, died on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at St. John's Hospital.
John was born December 16, 1960 in Springfield, the son of Fred E. and Patricia Ann Stapleton Bartlett.
John graduated from Waverly High School in 1980 and earned his Associates Degree in Conservation from Lincoln Land Community College. John was a tremendous athlete. At Waverly High School he was known for his blazing speed out of the blocks as well as his quickness and accuracy on the basketball court. He also had an open try-out for the Cincinnati Reds after high school. John loved the outdoors, tinkering with small engines and woodworking. He also liked to surprise his nieces with special treats such as his homemade chocolate fudge and KING SIZE Snickers. John was a member of St. Cabrini Catholic Church.
John would give the shirt off his back or his last dollar to help a stranger in need. He was always for the "Underdog" and helped those who couldn't help themselves. John had a heart of gold, the bluest eyes and the greatest smile. He loved to laugh and tease. We are all truly Blessed that God placed him in our lives.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra "Sandy" Bartlett Henry; nephew, Andrew "Andy" Bartlett Henry; Aunt Gina and Grandparents.
He is survived by his parents, Fred and Patty Bartlett of Springfield; siblings, Bruce Bartlett (wife, Kendra) of Jacksonville; Diane Bartlett of Springfield; Jeannette Waters (husband, Dave) of Springfield; Douglas Bartlett of Brookfield; Stephen Bartlett (wife, Leanne) of Jacksonville; and Angela Martin (fiancé, Bob McFarland) of Petersburg; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; including nephew Mike Flynn.

I remember the dust and cinders flying behind John when he ran on the track. I rode the bus with the Bartlett family for years. John would always help the bus driver as the rearview mirror in backing out of Dodd's driveway. May God comfort your family!

Pat, Fred and Family,
My thoughts and prayer's go out to all of you. I remember babysitting for your children and I alway's had fun with them. I especially remember how Johnny would let me comb his hair, then hold him up in front of the mirror for him to see and he would have the biggest smile on his face. Losing a child is the worst experience a parent can ever go through, I can't even imagine the profound loss of 2 children. I lost my daughter, Kristi just a year ago. My heart goes out to you and your family at the loss of your son.
May God Bless and Comfort You,
Theda (Dexheimer) Termine-Kaylor

Pat, Fred and Family,
My heart is heavy with sadness upon hearing about the loss of John. My prayers go out to all of you and hope that you find comfort and strength from your faith in God. You now have another angle with Andrew and Sandy watching over all of you. What I remember most about John was his sense of humor and the ability to make everyone around him laugh. Hold the memories close to your heart and he will always be with you.
Love to all of you!!
