Michael Chapman Obituary

MICHAEL RYAN "MIKE" CHAPMAN, 31, lifelong resident of Stamford, died Saturday, March 10, 2012. Mike is survived by his mother, Karen Chapman, of Stamford, CT, and his brothers in life, Danny DeGruttola, Marc Mulhern, Frank Caputo, Evan Philippopoulos, Parim (Polly) Vrzivoli, Robert Atkinson, and countless friends. He was predeceased by his Grandmother, Shirley Chapman of San Antonio, TX. After his love for his mother and friends, Mike was an avid sports fan. He loved his New York Yankees and Syracuse Orange. Mike also loved Jay-Z and Pink Floyd. Anyone who knew Mike can truly say their lives are forever blessed. They all have been given a gift - the gift of laughter. Wherever Mike went, smiles followed him. Mike was a graduate of Westhill High School, Stamford, Class of 98. He was employed by MJC Electric in New York City. In the short four years he was there, he was promoted to purchasing manager. No words can describe Mike's passion for life. Mike will never be gone to the people who loved him, for they only have to close their eyes, and after the sadness passes, they will only be filled with tears of happiness that Mike made them feel every day. His family welcomes all friends and relatives TODAY, Friday, March 16th , from 4 pm to 8 pm at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford. A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, March 17th at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately. "The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long." A memorial trust fund has been set up in Mike's name, to make a contribution, please send to: The Michael R. Chapman Memorial Fund, 244 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT 06901, Attn or in Trust to Karen Chapman. Mike's family has entrusted the Funeral arrangements to Bosak Funeral Home and Cremation, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT. You have to know that he had to be "rescued" by the fire dept. because he was wearing the new Jordans and didn't want to get them wet. Typical Mikey.

October 31, 2012

Louie, this storm has me remembering the time you got stuck on a sandbar at Cummings during a storm because you wanted to watch the waves. Stamford fire dept squad came to your rescue. You guys were laughing the whole time, but mom and I were saying "Fire! Fire!" Typical Mikey. Love you.

If only I possessed the ability to put into words what you meant, and mean to me. The last time we ran into each other we spent an hour catching up and talking about the tragedy of Danielle and how we've always held that with us. After we asked about each other's moms, I could see that nothing had changed with you and Karen...still best friends. I was always jealous of that growing up but it never mattered when I was around you two since Karen treated me like a son (like many others). You two were the reason I made it to my first Yankee game, and the reason why I will never forget the address 69 Cove Road. I hope you don't mind that I used to use it whenever I needed a fake address for something I didn't want to sign up for throughout my adult years.

That was us though, that was typical of our similar personalities. Remember when we ran into Derek Harper in the mall and I told him how ugly Patrick Ewing was and he got really upset. I did it because I knew you would get a laugh out of it, because you did so many things that made me laugh. How about the time you kept ringing Andrew's doorbell non-stop until he finally came running out chasing ME and threw eggs at me. I was so mad at the time but what I wouldn't do now just to have that happen again. You were truly my best friend and easily the most influential on my adolescent life, and in truth, you are a part of who I am today. There are only a few close people who know this about me, but I have spoke of you over the years whenever I have explained things about who or how I am. Today and forever, I will never be prouder of that fact.

I like to pretend that you hear me when I talk to you; and when you talk back to me in this hypothetical long distance convo, what you say truly exemplifies who you are - Take care of my mother. Seems like the people you touched in life already knew this and are there for your request. I would be honored to be one of those people.

So I sign off for now, salt and vinegar chips in hand, and bid you ado my old friend, until we meet again. "ha-ha Kyoko, mcyonkers cheeeese"

Chapman, no words can describe how much you are missed by every person you encountered. Here is a quote by Helen Keller that gives me some peace you are forever smiling up above...

“It gives me a deep comforting sense that "things seen are temporal and things unseen are eternal."”

Please watch over us, especially your mom and the boys.

We will never forget you. Xo

May Mike rest in peace. I saw so many friends Friday and Saturday who clearly have a deep bond for each other, but an amazingly profound affection for Mike. Seems to me he was a teacher to many of us. Karen - you gave him more than you ever had to give, somehow, each time, every time, always, always and always. Mike was a very special person. My heart breaks for you. Plesae let your friends bestow upon you the type of - always giving kindness - that you have always given to others, especially at this time of such great sorrow. Msy God Bless You and Comfort You.

Over the years I have helped many young men and women get a start in life it is truely a passion of mine, To see a young person receive abreak in life and take it and run with it. Chapmen certainly was one of the finest . To see a young man in life who had such a desire to suceed and actually made a position in mjc electric and wouldn't be denied . This in it self has to be a credit to his mom karen and from what I know no his grandmother who he had such a special relationship with.My association with chapman started as jr said when marc first told jr about michael and hired in on the spot .But the incredible thing to me is how can so many fine young men and women could come from one area . My best friend for so many years brian mulhearn sr who was a man among men and the finest person I have met . And Brians children ernie brian marc and margie who my whole family loves .To see such hard working young people as the mulhearns and chapmen come from the same town has to be a credit to the school systems the great parents the dedication of family values that all parents should learn from.So in conclusion I have to thank karen for giving us the privilage of knowing and working with michael . And how impressed I was with the love and support that was shown for karen .all michaels friends and what a fine job mark and all the boys did .Know matter how old you are in life you are never to old to learn and to what I saw in that small town in connecticut this week will stay with me for the rest of my life and only confirm what I new over 35 years ago that there is still a lot of good people that touch our lives and for me it started with marks mom and dad and I am so pleased to see being carried on by the children of this fine community .who are a credit to all of us.

To Karen,

If the measure of a life lived is the mark left on those someone loves, your son was a giant. As the father of some of Mike's friends, I know he was deeply loved.

Danny, Mark, be at peace; your friend and brother is in a better place, smiling with you, and waiting for all of you. You will all meet again one day.

With Love,
