I had the privilege of knowing Caleb when Lady Cheerio was being built, he was so proud of that ship. He was such a perfect gental men. My mom and I loved Caleb. I'm sorry he got his first speeding ticket trying to get me home on time! He kept his promise and took me crabbing and let me drive her home! What a privilege it was. We had some great memories out four wheeling on the beach at night! I will forever remember him. He died doing what he loved and that is a peace we can all live with! Im just finding out, im so sorry for your loss. What a short life he lived!

I have read many moving statements about Caleb and felt compelled to comment because although I never had the pleasure of meeting him, I did meet his brother, Drake, years ago when I lived in Carolina Beach. Drake was a kind person and a gentleman, much like the descriptions I have read about his brother. I am very sorry for your loss, and I have faith that those left behind suffer far more than those who have crossed over. My prayers are with you all.
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also" John 14:1

Mr. & Mrs. Batson, My husband has fished with your family, but mostly with Caleb, for many years and Caleb became my good friend during this time. He made sure to always bring home a Grouper for me! We want you to know how very sorry we are for your loss. We loved your son so very much and will miss him beyond belief. Please take comfort in the fact that you raised an incredible, good-hearted, God fearing man. You do not find a lot of young people with the kind of heart and head that Caleb had! You and your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers. He will be greatly missed - country-wide!

Capt. Caleb you will never be forgotten. I drive by your boat slip everyday and have always thought about the joy you brought me and mine. I can only imagine the others you've touched.
I can only assume that everyone in heaven was hungry and God needed someone to catch fish to feed them. That's why you were called home.
We'll done, my good and faithful servant.

Caleb was a true waterman, a throwback of sorts on what its meant to be a true fisherman. He lived the life most men could only dream about. He was a shining light in an industry that has seen its share of hard times. He will be missed but never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

John I can not begin to fathom how difficult a loss this is for you and your family to go through. I didn't have the privilege to get to know Caleb personally but from what I did see he was a vibrant, hard working, diligent, young man with a passion for the sea that contributed to our community. No doubt you were all proud of him.
Now for whatever reason any of us can understand he has been called to guard the seas for all those who have gathered around to mourn his loss, give comfort to his family and navigate the waters off our coast.
John I hope as a family of the sea even though Caleb's loss seems senseless knowing that may bring you some small comfort.

I could not wait to grab the binoculars and search the horizon for his tall masts as his boat came into view. There was no mistaking his boat. As I would watch the blue fill in beneath his antennas I would only get more anxious to go down to his dock and check out his catch from the day. I can never remember being disappointed. I loved to say hello Captain nice catch and then be totally blown away from watching his knife skills as he smiled and talked about the day. I love you Captain Caleb, and will miss you!

If I should die beneath the sea -
What e'er the circumstance may be -
I only ask that you not cry
For such a lucky one as I.
But, rather, weep for those alive
Who know not what it is to dive
Into the planet's liquid heart,
And of God's ocean be a part.
For even Christ must envy all
Who stroll along the ocean's wall;
Though wind and sea His will obeys,
He only walked upon the waves.
And may I ask for one thing more?
A simple cross beside the shore.
Below my name inscribe for me:
Lost to the earth, but found at sea.
